KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- The Turkish Embassy clarified Monday Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was allowed into the ambassador's residence on humanitarian grounds.
It said the former deputy prime minister cited personal security concerns to seek refuge at the envoy's residence on Sunday for a temporary period until certain issues regarding his personal safety were addressed.
"Anwar's wish was granted on humanitarian grounds," it said in a statement.
The statement also said that at no time and under no circumstances Anwar was invited to seek protection at the embassy.
It said Anwar left the ambassador's residence at 6.45pm after been given the guarantee for his personal safety by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim and Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar. Anwar claimed yesterday he was invited by Turkish ambassador to Malaysia Barlas Ozener to take refuge at the embassy.
Anwar took refuge at the Turkish Embassy here yesterday after a 23-year-old aide lodged a police report on Saturday alleging that Anwar had sodomised him on Thursday.
The PKR adviser claimed he had information from government sources and military intelligence that BN agents planned to harm or probably kill him and harm his family members and supporters.
tunku : and the moron said he was invited as a guest but still the ambassador had to give him shelter because he was directed so by "big hands" from the west.
