No press conference, Umno leaders keep mum

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — Umno Supreme Council members were tight-lipped about what they discussed during the three-hour meeting they had here today.
In a surprise move — at least to the press — Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi did not hold a press conference after chairing the meeting.
With his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Razak joining him in making a quick exit, the role of the spokesperson fell upon information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib who was only willing to explain the Umno-Pas unity talks.
Another Supreme Council member Datuk Shahrir Samad joked that he would run for presidency but that of the Members of Parliament's Golf Association.
On the issue of interest rates and rice supply under his Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, he declined comment.
"We just talked about the party elections," said another Supreme Council member who declined to elaborate.
Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein uttered a few words about the party's disciplinary committee meeting but when asked about the Supreme Council meeting, he said, "That you have to ask Pak Lah."
If there was one thing they were all united about, it was this: no comments to the press.

tunku : if there is a pc, the same thing we will hear from pak lah, nothing new. this was a special meeting where all the council members have been directed to explain the branches and divisions to back and support the transition plan and make them follow the 'ruling' by the president.you want to know further you have to ask pak lah( just like hishamudin said ).

Tunku, what happened?

Since I cannot ask Pak Lah, and if I can, he may not answer, well, can we get information from an insider?

i am sure there are things that "what start here, ends here" in that meeting.dont expect everything to be shared with the press and the public.for sure there are some things that need not to elaborate to the press especially things that are confidential only the UMNO.i am sure other political parties have the same move as well.there are things to be shared and not shared.perhaps that because they dont want other people make speculations or misinterpreted what they've said to the press.

sometimes its all about pr. you can hold a pc a just tell the things you can share without disclosing the top secret things. again this is the stupidity shown by them.
i heard they discussed abt the transition again as many branches wants pak lah to go.

Well, I personally think that they have certain issues which need not to be voice out or elaborate in the news and the public.

I have no explanations on the branches and divisions to back and support the transition plan and make them follow the "leadership" of the current president. It is just some sort of motivations and gaining back influence to the people and the public in generally.

Well, it's fair to say it's their right to not share all the details about the meeting. And bear in mind that not all things have hidden agendas behind them.

it's their right to do so. Interference from outsiders will only make matter worse with all the speculations.
