Mahathir Considers Najib As The Best Umno Leader
PORT DICKSON, July 12 (Bernama) -- Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad praised Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as the best among the Umno leaders.
Dr Mahathir admitted that when he was the prime minister, he seldom heard of complaints of any wrongdoing by Najib. "He was the shining star among the Umno leaders, but now he the shine has dimmed a little," he told reporters after attending a `Programme With the Former Prime Minister' organised by the SMK Bukit Saujana Alumni Club Saturday.
Dr Mahathir said he observed that Najib's star was becoming `dimmer' because while the political situation was declining after the last general election, Najib appeared to be doing nothing. On the contrary, he preferred to remain silent rather than criticise Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
He feared that the transition of power in 2010 would not give enough time to Najib, who would then be the sixth Prime Minister, to carry out political rehabilitation before the 13th general election.
"Najib has only two years whereas he would have to repair his own credibility at the same time," Dr Mahathir added.

The lying has begun
Najib, or for that matter Dollah Badawi cannot decide for themselves as to who is going to be what in UMNO at the December Party elections - it's up to the delegates. If this right of the members is denied by whatever means then UMNO can chuck all pretensions of being democratic.
Members should consider very carefully the type of leadership that they want. They deserve one better than the existing one. If they can't see this, then they deserve what they're getting. There's no dearth of talent in the Party still.
There were many reasons for the 12GE disaster, but right on the top is Dollah Badawi. To deny this is to be blind to the evidence. The euphoria of 2004 and the debacle of 2008 is separated by only 4 short years. Such is the completeness of the ineptitude of the regime, it even took the daydreaming PKR by surprise - a pleasent one, doubtless. What will not be a surprise will be the BN's loss in the 13GE if this bumbling excuse of a PM is not replaced. Now.
Nobody is sure of the fact that having Pak Lah replaced now is in ASAP aka tomorrow would be able to sole anything. The next PM would still have the same responsibilities to rebuilding the party or doing what is needed. So what exactly is the fuss? Who is to say the next PM to be will be better, or if not equally as good as him?
