Malaysia Needs 250,000 Engineers By 2020

SHAH ALAM, July 23 (Bernama) -- The country needs about 250,000 professional engineers by 2020.
Works Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said this number of engineers was required to ensure that the government's development programmes would proceed as planned.
"The target will bring the ratio of engineers to the number of people to 1:100 which is the ratio for developed nations. The effort to meet the target will be undertaken by the government through huge investment in human capital development," he told reporters after officiating at the Engineering Alumni talk show at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) here Wednesday.
Mohd Zin said UiTM, for example, produced 500 engineers each year while the government needed 10,000 engineers each year to reach the target of 250,000 by 2020.
He said the industries that required more engineers included manufacturing, biotechnology, information technology, chemical and robotics.
In another development, Mohd Zin said his ministry would study UiTM's request for a tiered road from the Federal Highway direct to UiTM.
"We have to study from the parameter technical aspect and if there is an urgency for the road, I will forward the request to the Economic Planning Unit for approval. When approved, then only will the Finance Ministry make an allocation for the road project," he said.
The Engineering Alumni talk show was organised by UiTM's Engineering Faculty for the strengthening of relations and sharing of experiences among members who are also the industry players.
Mohd Zin graduated in civil engineering from UiTM in 1977.

tunku : i hope that the government will able to produce 250000 jobs for the engineers by 2020. that is the most important thing.as for now there are engineers without job especially the civil engineers. some of them are working as assistant site supervisors with very low salary.if the government targeting 10000 engineers each year, then the government too should be able to provide 10000 jobs for them each year.

Malaysia needs? or Company in Malaysia needs?

So far, can I assume most of the road build in Malaysia do not take Engineering aspect while in the process?

Those road that become uneven after 2 days completed.. what is up with tat?

Seriously, last time the Human Resource Ministry came up with 'We Need People with IT Expertise' which boost the growth of IT college in Malaysia.. and how most of them being tricked with non-LAN oh excuse me! MQA certified degree. After completed the degree, even the government agency won't take them and these non-MQA certified college still can get their student to apply for the PTPT-pu loans.
My God, is there any brain left up there? If a private college is not MQA-certified, and for sure even government wont take them work.. don't approve their loan and suggest a better learning place for these student. Don let these student end up being a freelance pros or hooks, just to pay for the fees or maybe to pay up their loan after unable of getting job.

One more thing, don tell me this headlines just want to boost up market for private college with Engineering courses. Please think of those Private college student that have to suffer thru the ordeal in the name of education.

Can i have have some Minister that talk with fact.. not act on queue.

My God, show some shine to these ppl. Shame to those people who try to get rich by scamming other ppl money in the sacred name of education.
