Final 2 years: PM vows to fight graft, reform judiciary

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has pledged to battle corruption and bolster the judiciary before handing power to his deputy Najib Razak in mid-2010.
Abdullah also hopes the two-year transition will promote stability in Umno which suffered one of its worst electoral defeats in March.
"There will be less in-fighting, there will less campaigning amongst one another (for the leadership post)," he was quoted as saying by the official Bernama news agency late Saturday.
"In the two (coming) years as the prime minister, I will use the authority that I have in the best manner possible," he added, alluding to the country's corruption problems, and following a major government operation this week.

tunku : what have you been doing since 2003? sleeping? you vowed in 2003 but did nothing and now i'm sure you'll do it as this is the only thing that can give some credits to your ruined reputation.we hope you put extra hours working to strengthen our weak economy right now.that is the most important thing to do now.

The Anti-Corruption Agency detained at least 20 people including two top immigration officials allegedly involved in a scam to provide visas to migrant workers in exchange for money.
Abdullah's speech followed his announcement on Thursday to quit but the decision has not silenced calls for a prompt change of leadership.
Progress has been slow
Since taking office in 2003, Abdullah, who is Umno president, has promised to crackdown on graft and strengthen the judiciary as part of his election promises.

tunku : he just woke up.

But opposition leaders say progress has been slow, with few meaningful reforms.
The opposition has been demanding that the ACA report to parliament and not to Abdullah and it has been criticised for failing to secure high-level politically sensitive convictions.
Abdullah also said he will not try to hold on to power post mid-2010. "I will never do that. I won't go to Najib and tell him: 'They (Umno members) like me now, can you allow me to stay on for another one year?'," he said.

tunku : yes, you can't ask najib to allow you to stay on for another year but you can have a new deputy (under certain circumstances) and tell the nation that your deputy is inexperience and you need to stay on.

Dear Tunku,

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is useless, and hopeless.

Nothing much can be done by a leader who is asleep always, and also sleeping while he is awake.

As he fades we will forget him.

A celebration is in order after the standing ovation for him as he leaves.

A new leaf soon in the history of Malaysian political leaders.

Slogan, slogan , slogan.....tak habis2!! ! tapi action tarak ...ellek....pocik...

! ! ! dan banyak lagi.

" PM vows to fight Graft, reform judiciary"...bunyinya sangat gah,
tapi bukankah pemberian ex-gratia RM1.5 juta wang rakyat kepada setiap seorang bekas2 hakim itu sendirinya ada unsur2 rasuah. Bagaimana mungkin Menteri Kehakiman menangani reformasi judiciary, sedangkan beliu sendiri dilantik melalui pintu belakang?

Two years to fight graft and reform judiciary....I don't buy that.....and I don't think Malaysian will buy that too. I am more inclined to agree with what Matthias Chang wrote in "Umno's and Bumiputera's Beathwish - The Treachery of Abdullah Badawi" ...........................he is buying time for Son-in-Law .

what Pak Lah has been doing since 2003 is try to get ppl used to his different leadership style as compared to that of Dr Mahathir. he took over a huge legacy with Dr M's name written all over it..we cannot forever be living in the M dynasty. and all the speculation, plucked word by word from what Dr M said..seriously don't u realize it sounds really desperate? what good does that kind of speculation do?

So after all DSAAB is a smart man....call him Dollah tidor, Dollah lembek or Dollah flip-flop....anything, but the way he handled and manipulated the latest political move within UMNO re the June 2010 successive plan was simply devastating. It was a display of shrewdness , slick and cunning where with one stroke of the sword he not only neutralised any opposition but also strengthened his hold on the UMNO Presidentship.

Two weeks ago DSN sent clear signals that he was yet to decide whether to go for the No.1 top post or not ...meaning he was keeping the option open and anything can happen. This more or less confirmed TDM's revealation with regard to a pact between DSN and TSMY where comes December, DSN will contest for the President's post whilst TSMY will contest for the Deputy President's post during the UNMNO General Assembly.

Well, DSAAB checkmated everyone. With intelligence pouring in and surrounded by advisors, he played and positioned his knights, bishops and castles very well.....

Suddenly there was RPK's SD, followed by DSAI's sodomy case, then followed by Bala's SD 1 and SD 2.

Then came the sharp about-turn and the announcement by DSAAB re the June 2010 Peralihan Kuasa and the two top post in UMNO to remain uncontested.

TDM put it rightly when he questioned " apakah TPM Najib sekarang mengkhianati ‘pakatan’ ini dan membuat pakatan lain bersama PM ‘Flip-Flop’ Abdullah dan mengumumkanya tatkala Muhyiddin sedang berada di Jepun atas lawatan rasmi ".

In short, it was a stab in the back fo TSMY. At stake here is DSN's honour, credibility and integrity. Honestly, it was a big disappointment...I think all Malaysians felt the same way. With DSN playing "safe" and being a "yes" man, the future looks full of uncertainties for the country.

Certainly the future for DSN will be riddled with uncertainties too! ! !
