Defend Country's Sovereignty till Last Drop Of Blood - Tuanku Mizan

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin wants the security forces to be prepared at all times to defend the country's sovereignty "till the last drop of blood."
He said the exemplary conduct and sacrifices of past soldiers in defending the religion, race and country should be a source of inspiration and an example to present day soldiers.
"Although our country believe in peace and harmony, and have good ties with other countries, we still need a strong security forces in meeting threats to the country's sovereignty," he said in his Warriors Day 2008 address via RTM1 Wednesday night.
He urged the people to appreciate the undivided loyalty of the security forces as their sacrifices had created a peaceful and prosperous country.
Tuanku Mizan said the people should upgrade patriotism and loyalty and be prepared to sacrifice in defending the country.
"This is important as the responsibility of defending the country not only lies with the security forces but also the entire Malaysian population."
He also wanted the security forces to upgrade credibility and professionalism to gain international respect as proven during the peace missions under the United Nations.
The Royal Malay Regiment which conducted "public duties" in United Kingdom had also demonstrated a high level of professionalism and discipline while promoting Malaysia to tourists.
Tuanku Mizan urged Malaysians to remain calm in facing the economic slowdown due to the rising price of oil and food.
The people should pray that the situation would be resolved shortly and said the situation here was better than in other countries.
In conjunction with Warriors Day Thursday, Tuanku Mizan said the sacrifices of army and police personnel killed or injured in the line of duty must be appreciated by all.
"Their sacrifices are invaluable and cannot be measured in monetary form. Those still alive, their spouses and families must be supported in whatever way we can," he added.
