Anwar gets Umno veterans as he clears name with diplomats

KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 — Former Information Minister Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman is bringing two former senior Umno leaders to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat tomorrow, the first of crossovers promised by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The opposition leader is set to announce the crossover tomorrow, a day after he briefed mostly western diplomats about the "political conspiracy" to stop him from becoming Malaysia's sixth Prime Minister.
Fauzi is the former Kuantan MP and Beserah state assemblyman in Pahang. His entry into PKR is not a surprise among party supporters as he had been seen with Anwar during the opposition leader's visit to Pahang recently.
Fauzi's son Mohd Farhan is also the founder member of the Anwar Ibrahim Club.
Early this month, rumours were rife about Umno leaders from Pahang — Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Deputy Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah — joining Anwar's party. Both denied the rumours.
Apart from Fauzi, former MCA central committee member Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew, who quit the party last Thursday, is also expected to join PKR.
So far no serving Barisan Nasional legislators, either at the state assembly or Parliament, has joined PKR after the March 8 general election.
Anwar has set Sept 16 for BN MPs to jump over to his Pakatan Rakyat side, to enable formation of a new federal government.
The former deputy prime minister spoke to diplomats at the PKR head office in Tropicana to clear his name over fresh allegations of sodomy, a repeat of events 10 years ago that stopped him from succeeding former mentor Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Dr Mahathir is convinced that Anwar is guilty of sexual misconduct, saying no government is stupid to rehash the same allegations.
Anwar is also under pressure to make good his prediction as ally PAS has confirmed its leaders have met Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for talks on Islam and Malay unity, apparently due to unease with the multi-racial approach of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition cobbled after the March 8 election.

tunku : he can take as many as the EXs he wants. anyway fauzi rahman is not the important figure in umno. if he wants to join pkr, please by all means. it's better he go rather being a hidden enemy or spy in the party.guess the editor of the news made a mistake, fauzi is not former minister but former deputy information minister.

what a democratic way to form government, by openly preaching AND displaying betrayal to one's party and the voters. Since when did Pakatan appoint him as everyone's leader? I daresay there are enough good politicians in the Pakatan who is ashamed him and his antics. I voted for change, NOT for him.

Ahh..the crossover mentioned by Anwar all along. Expected 30Mp's to do so, but currently nothing happen.

Another rumors and propaganda by Anwar to weaken the BN's. I wont be surprised if he would said if TDM is going to join the PKR, I know it would not be truth after all. All are just rumors just to bring bad image of the current government.

Anwar, you boldly stated that 30 MPs are crossing over now they are UMNO veterans. Major difference.
Get your facts checked next time before making any press statement.

These expired politicians has nothing to do after their pension of course. Don't expect them to go fishing either. Who knows brother Ain't Warak (Anwar) gives them a free membership card to join his club. As for the diplomats they are fishing in a frying pan, suitable to watch as Laugh The Gags scenario.

Kesian Anwar, orang2 macam ni je ke yang dia dok kecoh cakap ramai nak lompat parti tu? Tak heran langsung kalau Datuk Fauzi ni lompat, takda kesan dekat UMNO pun, bukan MP pun.

Another loser wanted to join PKR wakaka! Poor Fauzi...he's one of Anwaristas during Anwar in UMNO. Hoping to be MB of Pahang if Anwar manage to be PM. But unfortunately his idol more interested in 'other' thing! Now, you still not learning ya Fauzi? Still want to rub Anwar's a**. Pathetic.

Nak tambah sikit lagi, Anwar boleh ambil orang2 yang macam ni sebanyak mana yang boleh. Orang2 macam ni simpan lama2 pun tak guna. Dah memang terang2 penyokong kuat Anwar. Ambil2, sila encik Anwar, buat macam rumah sendiri ye.
