Dr M Defends Najib, Says Anwar Has Motive Behind Allegations

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, in a statement to defend Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, on Monday claimed that allegations thrown against the Deputy Prime Minister were mere hearsay and was done with a political motive.
"I don't know why he (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) should go for Datuk Najib. It wasn't Datuk Najib who reported his behaviour. I think he has always been attacking Datuk Najib. Maybe he thinks that Datuk Najib is standing in his way of becoming the Deputy Prime Minister (or) Prime Minister.
"Anwar cannot join Umno...I don't think Umno will accept him. The allegations against him (Najib) were all hearsay. There is no proof. You just say that he did something, but you have to give proof. You can't just say that ''I heard somebody did this''. That is not proof," said the former Prime Minister, when met by reporters after he paid a courtesy call on Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is here for the 6th Eight Developing Islamic Countries Summit.
Dr Mahathir was commeting on allegations made by Anwar, the Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader, who claimed that Najib was involved in the murder case of Altantunya Shaaribu, a Mongolian citizen, who was found brutally murdered last year.
Three people, including political analyst Abdul Razak Abdullah Baginda, are facing charges for the alleged offence.
Last week, in another explosive revelation, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 23, who was employed as one of Anwar's aides lodged a police report stating that he was sodomised by Anwar.
"There is a concerted campaign against Najib. I don't know why. Not just by Anwar, this other chap, (blogger) Raja Petra also, and a number of others. Somebody is working behind this, maybe to undermine Najib's possiblity of challenging the Prime Minister," Dr Mahathir alleged.
Asked what he thought of the current political situation in the country, he said;" I think they (the present administration) don't want to talk about politics anymore. They want to work so I'm going to look at them working."
To another question whether the current political situation in the country would effect the economy, he claimed that it could as the situation would not encourage people from coming to Malaysia.

tunku : yes, they are working hard to demonized najib , to stop him from challenging pak lah in the coming party's election. so najib should know by now that the threat is coming from within the camp too and he has to fight all the way. anwar seldom attacks pak lah only when he is forced to, but najib always, wonder why?

Pak Lah does not want to be embroiled in the filthy politicking, he wants to heed the call and protest of people during the March 8th election, and just get to work. Best just let the other two power players play it out. Maybe Anwar sees Pak Lah as no threat? but really ppl, let's see Anwar for who he is. He is neither needed or wanted by our country. A democratic reformer? if reform he means forming the government using an unconventional (matters not it's morally dubious) way, then yes. he's ur man.

of course Anwar has motives behind his allegations, that man has motives behind everything that he does. the sooner we be rid of him, the better. Actually, I wun be surprised if everything, including the retraction of the 1st SD and the disappearance, he's behind it. play victim, let everyone start pointing fingers, emerge saviour. familiar pattern.

People who says that Pak Lah is behind the recent allegations involving Najib & Anwar based on the speculation that he has everything to gain, are those who refuse to see the real picture instead they opted the easiest route that satisfy their anger and that is to bring Pak Lah down.
Both issues are yet to be in trial but 'the verdict' has pretty much axed by the public-that is to put Najib and Pak Lah down while Anwar emerge as the next Malaysian Hero.
it's easy to look to Anwar as a 'hero' nowadays, his issues are much hyped about.
But based on history, Anwar is far from capable to be the next PM.
He intends to capture the hearts of Malaysia by planting clever allegations seeded with his motive.
Every twist and turn of the allegations now reveal more and more of his involvement.
