PAS Will Split Up If Muzakarah Is Held, Says Nik Aziz

KOTA BAHARU, July 21 (Bernama) -- PAS spiritual advisor Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat Monday called for a stop to any muzakarah (discussions) between PAS and Umno as it could cause a split in the Islamic party.
He described the attempt by Umno to have the muzakarah purportedly to strengthen Malay solidarity as merely a gimmick but aimed at causing the fall of PAS.
"I want to ask the PAS leaders (reported to have held talks with Umno) whether they are interested in safeguarding PAS and Islam. Trying to be friends with Umno is like "sleeping with the enemy," he told a press conference here Monday.
The Kelantan Menteri Besar was commenting on remarks by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi Sunday that high-level talks had been taking place between Umno and PAS on matters relating to Malay unity and strengthening Islam.
Abdullah, however, said Nik Aziz was not among the PAS leaders in the talks.
Asked if he would be having a word with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and other leaders of the party who were for the muzakarah, Nik Aziz replied in the negative but said certain statements issued by them did not make him happy.
However, he denied that that he was no longer on the same "wavelength" with them but warned that if they were not careful, they would be taken on a "nice ride by Umno".
He added that it was best to let the grassroots decide on the muzakarah as PAS would be holding its muktamar (general assembly) very soon.

tunku : umno where its members are Muslim again labeled as enemy by pas leader, nik aziz.to friends with muslim from umno are like sleeping with enemy.this is the Islam taught in pas. i am disappointed that this came out from the mouth of a person like nik aziz, they calls him tuan guru, ulama etc but what he preaches here does not reflect the teaching of true Islam. after all it's all about politics in pas not Islam.

Umno-Pas Dialogue Good For The Ummah - Rais

SINGAPORE, July 21 (Bernama) -- The dialogue session (muzakarah) between Umno and Pas is good for the community and fulfills one of the tenets of Umno struggles, said Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.
He said the muzakarah was also in consonance with the Asean spirit "where we discuss things, and it is good for the community."
"In fact, the fact that both parties are well disposed to discuss things will be good for the ummah...secondly, it fulfills one of the tenets of Umno struggles also, that is for the religion, for the community and for the oneness-unity," he told Malaysian reporters on the sidelines of the 41st Asean Ministerial Meeting here Monday.
Rais, who is also foreign minister, is leading the Malaysian delegation to the ministerial meeting and related-meetings.
"For once, we are looking ahead (on) what would happen to the community through politics and the struggle of each party," said Rais when asked to comment on the dialogues held between top leaders of Umno and Pas.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had earlier revealed that Umno and PAS have had three high-level dialogue sessions to discuss several issues closely related to religion. Abdullah said these meetings were not attended by PAS Spiritual Leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who is also Kelantan menteri besar.

tunku : forget about it rais, nik aziz had said you are the enemy.no discussion with the enemy.

Kenapa perlu bersikap negatif sebegitu? Bukankah ini mungkin membawa kebaikan kepada ramai pihak. Tidak perlu sentiasa bersikap curiga.

a religious leader who objects to peaceful, civil and constructive talks with the "enemy"? is this what Islam teaches? shame on those who claim to speak with an enlightened voice but is actually so shallow-minded. plus, is it so easy to break PAS up? if yes then they have deeper issues.

Befriending Hindraf, DAP antiMuslim goons, is all Okay. But UMNO Muslims a big NO! This is bull shit.
How are you going to serve best for Islam with DAP and Hindraf who oppose a construction of Surau.
PAS you are loosing my respect.
Pas should rather negotiate with not only UMNO but PKR malays too, to form a new Malay caucus.

Here this is an interesting article I read from an Internationa correspondent.

Consider this:

1. UMNO accepts Malaysian Malays and Bumiputeras to be a member, regardless of religion, and we see some Muslims of different race not being able to be a member (eg the KIMMA case).

2. PAS accepts any Malaysian Muslim, regardless of race, to be a member;

So the two are different.

The whole idea of having the Muzakarah is to talk about the Malay and Muslim issues.
The title of this post itself suggests us that a simple Muzakarah can effect the party and split it up. How weak can PAS be?
Then the concern is not with the Muzakarah but the understanding issue that PAS is apparently lack of AMONG the leaders in the party itself.

syarhan, you have a good point there.

PAS would not be that easy to split up with just muzakarah. Is PAS that weak? This is absurd.

If is truth that PAS is a strong party, discussion dialogue with other parties wont do any harm to their party. If it is so, this shows that the party members have different views and ideology in the party, which also shows that they are not unite as they claim to be.

Last time people argue about the benefits of debate, now they intent to do it on dialogue discussions (muzakarah)?

Kenapa isu muzakarah ni dibesar-besarkan? Kenapa Nik Aziz melarang muzakarah dengan UMNO? Kenapa memandang muzakarah sebagai jalan yang sempit sedangkan ia adalah perkara baik...

yeah well, what to do. Our minds are trained to favour the alternative ways. Well, my vote is for the change of Malaysia but i'm sure that the change should be done in a proper way. This muzakarah is one of the many good things that's yet to come.So dont held back by turning it into a negative thing.
