They were confiscated for having violated a condition provided under the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 (Amendment) 2012, the ministry said.
Section 5 of the Act limits the circulation of the publications to members only.
“The ministry, in an operation carried out under the Act, has seized 1,408 copies of Suara Keadilan, 1,062 copies of Harakah, and 70 copies of The Rocket.
“The operation was carried out at premises selling the tabloids nationwide starting May 22, taking into account monitoring efforts and warning given by the ministry before this.
“This operation will be carried out continuously for the purpose of enforcing the Act and to ensure that all parties do not violate it,” the ministry said in a statement Thursday.
Suara Keadilan, Harakah, and The Rocket are party organs for PKR, PAS and DAP respectively.
