SHAH ALAM: PKR is challenging its former Youth chief Ezam Mohd Nor to stand against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Permatang Pauh by-election.
“We hope Umno will let Ezam to take on Anwar in the by-election.
“Let him come and contest if he dares because this is what the PKR wants,” said Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, a supreme council member and Selangor state liaison chief after a tea session with the media Thursday.
Last week, Ezam, who has joined Umno, said that he was willing to take on Anwar in a by-election and was not afraid to face his former boss if selected by the Barisan Nasional leadership.
Khalid, who is Selangor Mentri Besar, said the party congratulated and thanked PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail for stepping down as Permatang Pauh MP to make way for her husband to contest in the by-election.
When asked if Anwar’s decision to stand in Permatang Pauh was expected, Khalid replied: “Sort of, but Bandar Tun Razak and Kulim were always mentioned.”
Khalid also said he was starting the campaign immediately by calling the rakyat to choose a leader who would work hard to reduce their burden, especially in the face of inflation.
On PAS rejecting the possibility of it cooperating or forming a coalition government with Umno, Khalid said it was expected.
He said he had no problems with PAS if it wanted to hold talks with Umno because he believed PAS would advise him on how to run the state and ensure that Muslims and other communities were treated fairly.
tunku : yeah, we want ezam to stand in permatang pauh and prove himself. this is the right venue for ezam, not in kulim or bandar tun razak. this is the place that ezam can show umno what he is capable off and bring all the things he has against anwar as claimed by him recently.this is a test for ezam, if he can wins in permatang pauh than he has all the right to take any position he wants in umno but if he fails than just stay at the background.

Nah, I don't think Ezam should, and in any case I don't think his UMNO big boss will let him. He's still relatively young and inexperienced, and please, let's face it, it won't be a fair fight in PP for Ezam.
ezam knows his former boss well but is that adequate enough?.he's still young and has lots to learn in years to come.but if he's given the opportunity, then ezam must take it as a challenge and prove himself as best as he can.it doesnt matter if he win or not but what matter is he try.if he win, then it's a bonus.if he lose, dont give up and continue to work for the society.
but as all we know, the chances are Anwar gonna own the place.but other contestant might as well try their luck and capability.
Agree tunku. Since the venue is a stronghold for PKR, it would be great if Ezam could contest against DSAI in that place. The possibility of winning the contest is a doubt.
i smell something fishy about this PP election,jijah back off,anwar go in,ezam took on(the challange)..???hmmm...dont u think?
While I like Tunku's comment very much, I trust there are other UMNO leaders/members who are more deserving to be fielded than the "lalang" Ezam, given their contributions and sacrifices. If Ezam is sincere, he will definitely assist in the campaign even if he is not fielded.
To me, it's not whether it's fair for Ezam to challenge Anwar at Permatang Pauh, but it's time to test his sincerity to UMNO and BN in the "perjuangan" and not to "become a Yang Berhormat at any cost"!
Tak Dak Nama 3
let ezam run in the background.. to support another candidate that is more truthful to help the needy rakyat over in permatang pauh.. a person capable of developing the place..
if a person running for election just to stop another person... it wont be good for the rakyat..
pls think of rakyat before u send someone for an election.. better still.. pick a good local.
I think this is the One Issue I hope the Talent-To-Hold-On-To-Power-Badawi will excel itself. This is one issue to back UMNO to rid off Anwar.
