KUALA KLAWANG, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Umno has to change for the better otherwise the future of the party is at stake, said its Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.He said he could foresee this as he had been with the party for a long time.
"The first test is the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election on Aug 26 and if Umno is weak, we will not be able to defend our foundation.
"What I mean is that Umno has to shine again and we must know our weaknesses. We should not be unduly worried about the clash under whatever circumstances.
"After the contest, we have to come to terms with our views. But this requires energy and thinking," he told reporters here Saturday.
Rais, who is also Foreign Minister, said on the other hand, if Umno stayed away from the contest, it would be against the party's constitution.
"So, as far as possible, the contest must be fought in an organised manner but after the by-election we must close ranks to continue with our struggle," he said.
"Some people say it is easier said than done. In politics, it is difficult... more so in a struggle, but we must endure," he said.
tunku : if umno to shine, get rid of the sleepy heads, corrupt heads etc.most of all get rid of it's current president asap which had failed to lead umno into greater height. he is responsible of what is happening to umno.

cari kiwi la rais nak shine kan balik umno. umno dah terlalu kotor kerana politik melampau dollah.
umno to shine again....... not under dolah.
It is again not easy to change the attitudes and behaviours of ppl in umno (there 2 million of them btw). Especially so after the change of leadership from Tun M to Pak Lah. We shall see if the next PM will be an better.
How to shine? Elect you as President! Sudahlah Rais you are equally like the rest!Opportunist!

i guess rais yatim is trillion time better than dolah kaki tidur penjahanam umno.
it so sad to see where is umno today. pak lah will make umno's fate like dinasour one day.GONE.HISTORY.
UMNO definitely got to shine back, before the rakyat lose hope and confidence on them by nest GE.
nah jaro..i wouldn't go for rais yatim. He is full of corruptions in his old days service. I have no comments on AAB.
