Umno In Danger Zone If Money Politics Continues Unabated

KOTA BAHARU, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- Umno will be in danger zone if money politics, which is becoming rampant, is not curbed now to prevent the public from eventually losing trust in this biggest Malay-based party.
Its vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is frustrated with the situation, said Umno must urgently do something so that money politics would not become like a cancer that could totally destroy the party.
"As party members, we must view this problem seriously and I regard Umno now being in danger zone if money politics continues unabated," he told reporters after giving a briefing on the Umno Code of Ethics to party members, here today.
Muhyiddin, who also chairs the party's Constitution and Regulations Committee, said if previously money politics occurred during elections for the top posts in Umno, it had however spread to the branches.
"I've received unofficial reports that it has become rampant at all levels and it is frightening if this becomes normal practice in future."
He said according to the reports, money politics also occurred in states under opposition control.
"It is sad if one day, the people see this problem as synonymous with Umno, so the situation must be corrected before the next general election.
"Although Umno has a Disciplinary Board, it is difficult for the board to monitor and enforce the existing regulations under the present circumstances.
"This is because the ill has spread to all levels while the board has limited manpower," he said.
Muhyiddin, therefore, urged all party members to look again at the Code of Ethics which had been distributed to all, as a reminder for them not to indulge in the malpractice.
"I want all party members to view money politics as a despicable act and against the law and religion," he said.

tunku : this is why, the quota system should be abolished. the people up there, who are trying to be up there , are power crazy and have means will do their level best and under the current regime it spread to the branches just to make sure they nominates them. till date 4 umno leaders had said that this is the worst they have seen so far. they are muhyiddin, syed hamid, mustapa mohamed and rais yatim. how will umno rise again if this thing continues. why pak lah set up internal body to monitor the situation? internal body will obviously obey the boss and nothing of the boss and his people wrong doing will be made known.

Kepada semua pemimpin Muslim, sedarlah:

Hadith - Sahih Al-Bukhari 9:265

Allah's Messenger SAW said, "If any ruler having the authority to rule Muslim subjects dies while he is deceiving them, Allah will forbid Paradise for him."

Money politics has been there for donkey's years. Muhyiddin is only now saying the obvious. Anyone who says otherwise is a liar.
In my time this had been true right through the branches, only no one wanted to bring it up at the General Assembly, the right place to do so.
Isa Samad was made a scapegoat to show how serious Dollah Badawi was supposed to be, but although Isa was guilty as hell, Ali Rustam and the rest were guilty, too.
Recently the UMNO GE losing nominee for Ampangan was caught by ACA for bribing a branch Head RM 500 leading to his contesting the Seremban Division elections this month. What was that proving ?
Corrupt practices produce corrupt leaders, plain and simple. Carry on UMNO, and you deserve all the crap people are throwing at you.
