"Cancer" Spreading In Umno, Says Syed Hamid

KOTA TINGGI, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said the keen competition to vie for posts in the party presently has turned negative following the use of money politics, abusive words and threats, among others.
All these were like cancer which could destroy Umno, said the Home Minister after launching a function hosted by the National Anti-Drugs Agency at Felda Aping Barat here today.
"The contest this time is keen, probably excessive. We are fighting each other by using not only money politics but also outside influence and threats. Hurling abuses and inviting outsiders to hurl abuses also are not right.
"Never that I have seen things like these before," he said.
Syed Hamid who is Kota Tinggi Member of Parliament, said the very keen contest was as though the world would end tomorrow and this would only make it difficult to promote solidarity within the party.
"My fear is that after the polls, how are we going to close ranks?," he said.
He said contests in the party should run in a family environment so that unity within Umno was not adversely affected.
"Whatever we do we must ensure Umno wins in the end. Don't compete as though the world will end, like tomorrow will no longer exist," he said.
He said the conduct of Umno members and leaders during the party election season was being monitored by a third party and the general public.

tunku : if syed hamid knows what is going on, then report it to the relevant authority.put spies everywhere, if we are really serious in curbing money politics in umno.we know it that some jobless division/branch heads and leaders are receiving monthly allowance from their god fathers.some of them are paid to make sure certain leaders wins or get elected etc. we can still save umno from dying when the cancer is at the early stage. but if the cancer has spread all over and at the last stage then no hope for umno to survive longer.
