PM to instruct Bkt Bendera chief not to repeat remark

KEPALA BATAS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi will personally see to it that Bukit Bendera Umno chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail does not repeat his remarks about the Chinese community.
“I’ll tell him not to do it again. You know during campaigning all sorts of things can come up. I don’t think he meant it. I’ll make sure to tell him not to say it again,” he said Saturday after chairing the Bertam Umno division meeting here.
Ahmad had allegedly called the Chinese "squatters" and said that "as the Chinese were only immigrants it was impossible to achieve equal rights amongst races" during a ceramah in Permatang Pauh on Aug 25.
He had allegedly made the remark in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Ahmad’s remarks have caused a furore among the Barisan Nasional component parties after it was printed in several Chinese newspapers.
Penang Gerakan Youth committee member Dr Thor Teong Gee lambasted Ahmad and alleged that Umno was still using racial ideology to achieve its personal political agenda.
Bukit Mertajam MCA division chairman Lau Chiek Tuan said disciplinary action should be taken against Ahmad.
“An apology is not enough to the Chinese community. We want Umno to take disciplinary action against him. We want him to leave Barisan and Umno because he has broken the racial harmony (of the parties),” said Lau, adding that the division had also lodged a police report against Ahmad.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary Ng Wei Aik has also called on Ahmad to immediately retract his statement and apologise to the community.
Ahmad could not be reached for comment.
In George Town, Tanjung Gerakan Youth division chief H’ng Khoon Leng lodged a police report at the district police headquarters in Patani Road over Ahmad’s alleged remarks.
Speaking to reporters after that, H’ng reminded people of all races to learn and be aware about the contribution of other races to the nation so that they won’t look down on others.

tunku : it is high time for pak lah to take stern action rather than 'lembut' action against this datuk. datuk ahmad ismail should make public apology and be suspended for some time. just to tell him not to repeat is not enough. people like him who gives umno a bad reputation when umno is not like what datuk ahmad ismail potrays.

there are many spoilers in UMNO. why are some UMNO members uttering such words? to scare the non-malays? to make them bow to UMNO? this won't work. the formula here is utterly wrong. with the present scenario, and if allowed to persist, the non-malays will not vote for UMNO anymore. they have alternate parties to vote in. UMNO should best remain a moderate party to win the hearts of moderate malays and the non-malays to stay relevant. umno must remember that it does not get the support of 100 per cent malays in the country. the most they can garner perhaps is about 50 per cent. the other 50 per cent will vote for other political parties, including PAS and PKR. umno has to depend on the non-malays then to stay relevant. when leaders start becoming racialistic with the hope of winning the malay hearts, the problem starts. inter-marriages have become too common now. how many malays can now claim to be pure malays? not many, I suppose.please be informed that most malaysians now are a mixed breed. one out of four to five malays now has mixed blood in him or her. these people, no matter what, will have a soft spot for those races they have blood-bond with. today in malaysia we have cousins, nephews, nieces, fathers, mothers, grandparents, uncles and aunties who are of different races and even religions. a 'malay' who has a chinese as his grandfather would not like his grandfather to be defined as a 'squatter' in this country. umno must start learning this fact and stop harssing other races. in the just concluded permatang pauh by-election, malays, chinese and indians voted in large numbers for the opposition candidate who looks more malay than the umno candidate. it is not the race factor here, but there is more to malaysian politics. umno has to reinvent itself to stay relevant, i'm afraid. stop using race as a tool to win votes. this old trick will fail.

Lately so many rascist remarks has been made by DAP,Gerakan, MCA and HINDRAF.They also question the Malay rights and privileges incl Islam. They never apologise!
Why is that when such remarks come from a Malay he is demanded to apologise!
Why is that when you hurt me it's OK but not when I do so!
Is it not true that the Chinese are migrants!
Why is that Malays are required to live in reality whilst the others are not!
I believe if the others refrain from making such remarks, the Malays will never hurt them.
What more proof do you need when the Non - Malays can live in prosperity with so much wealth and properties. If they claim they have the poor amongst them, so are many Malays.
Is it that when Malays are only drivers, gardeners , servants and employees to the non Malays then only there is democracy and equal rights in this country.
I am always proud when they say they are Malaysians and this is their country, I don't have any problem with that after all it's their rights. However it hurts me when they question mine!
Please remember that the Malays agreed to your constitutional rights not otherwise.

Datuk Ahmad Ismail should have known better that he should not made such remark which only brings discomfort to our society.

it's clear that Datuk Ahmad should be ashamed of his action during the Permatang Pauh campaign.

when a person from a certain race made such racial remark, doesn't mean that all people from that race is prejudice towards other race as well.

so far we can live in peace and harmony regardless what the color of our skin are.no people from any race should raise up racial prejudice towards another race.every race is equal here in Malaysia with each race have their own special advantage on them.
