Heavy security in Duta court complex

PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim will be brought before Sessions judge SM Komathy at the Jalan Duta court complex 10am today to be charged with having carnal intercourse against the order of nature.
The charge, preferred following a complaint by 23-year-old Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, carries a punishment of up to 20 years' imprisonment if found guilty.
Anwar arrived at 9.45am to cheers of 200 supporters gathered outside the court complex. He was accompaned by his wife, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and eldest daughter Nurul Izzah.
Penang Chief Minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng read out a brief joint statement from the opposition Pakatan Rakyat coalition.
He said that should Anwar was denied bail, Wan Azizah will be the coordinator of the Pakatan council.
Other Pakatan leaders present include PKR leaders Azmin Ali and Tian Chua, DAP leaders Lim Kit Siang and Gobind Singh Deo and PAS leader Husam Musa.
The police have put the entire court complex under heavy security, with police personnel lining up along the roads leading to the complex, as well as within the complex itself.
At least seven police and Federal Reserve Unit trucks are seen in the court parking area.
Similarly the police have also mounted several roadblocks in certain parts of the city, causing massive gridlocks in all main arteries that enter the city centre.
The police are also limiting public access to the courtroom - Sessions Court 1 - in which Anwar will be charged. All members of public are also asked to register themselves before entering the courtroom.
If bail was denied, as was the case when he was charged 10 years ago, Anwar will be detained and will have to fight his Permatang Pauh by-election behind bars.

Anwar pleads not guilty

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court Thursday to a charge of sodomising his former aide Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 23.
He was accused of committing the offence under Section 377B of the Penal Code between 3.01pm and 4.30pm in 11-5-1 of the Desa Damansara Condominium at 99, Jalan Setia Kasih, Bukit Damansara on June 26 2008.

The PKR adviser had earlier arrived in court accompanied by his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, daughter Nurul Izzah and lawyer Sankara Nair who is among among the nine defence counsels.
The prosecution team was led by Solicitor-General Datuk Idrus Harun. The prosecution did not opposed bail and proposed bail be set at RM20,000 and that Anwar be required to surrender his passport. However judge Komathy said that there was no need for the RM20,000 bail and instead a personal bond would suffice. He also said that Anwar need not surrender his passport as the opposition leader was not likely to abscond.
There has been heavy police presence, including FRU units, unformed policemen and those in plainclothes, at the complex since 6.30am.
A crowd of Anwar's supporters has also been steadily growing at the court from 7am, as roadblocks set up at roads leading to Jln Duta court complex and surrounding areas caused massive jams.
Security was tight at the entrance of the court complex. Policemen were seen taking down the identity card numbers of those going in.
Penang Chief Minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and his father, party adviser Lim Kit Siang was among those who were present in court.

Its unexpected. I thought this sort of case might not allow for bail. Thats kinda kind and fair play by the government. Perhaps they have enough strong evidence to nail DSAI down with the charges of his case.

Salam tunku,

Jika betul kerajaan nak jatuhkan Anwar, mana mungkin beliau diberi peluang sebegini.

in actual fact pak lah was playing the nice guy to anwar all this while, and this is how anwar "repays" the kindness.

Tunku,
The judge should have impounded the passport, taking into account DSAI's refuge at the Turkish embassy.

Layanan istimewa tu. Siap bagi ikat jamin, passport pun tak payah bagi. Hmmm..Tak payah bagi peluang dekat dia ni. Layan sama je lah macam orang lain..Senang.

anwar is such a demanding most wanted person in malaysia... Most wanted as in he is (going) to be charged in court. And most wanted as (some %) of people want him to be the next PM.

PM material? We shall let the ppl of permatang decide. At least its democratic. AFTER that, the jumping ship whatever (which until now habuk pun tarak) goes back to dirty politic tactics.

As far as I'm concern, he didn't deserve such treatments from any of them. He's charged with criminal charges, and yes he's innocent until proven guilty... but what happened to 'no one is above the law', how come he's entitled to special demands?!

If you choose to vote for Anwar then you are asking for trouble.
He still hasn't fulfill his PROMISES and the STATEMENTS that he had made these past few months.
If he can lie directly, behind, side, every possible angle to us, then just imagine what will happen to Malaysia.
