Permatang Pauh By-election: Nomination on Aug 16, Polling on Aug 26

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The Election Commission (EC) Wednesday fixed Aug 16 as the nomination day for the Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election in Penang and Aug 26 for polling if there was a contest.
Election Commission Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said in the by-election, the EC would be using the 2007 master electoral roll which was gazetted on Feb 5, and the 2008 first-quarter supplementary electoral roll, gazetted on June 19 and updated on July 31.
"A total of 58,459 voters, comprising 57,969 ordinary voters and 490 postal voters, are eligible to cast their votes in the by-election," he said in a statement after chairing a special EC meeting on the by-election here Wednesday.
The statement was distributed to the media by EC Public Relations Officer Sabri Said at the EC headquarters lobby.
The seat fell vacant following the resignation of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) President Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the constituency's member of parliament on July 31 to make way for her husband, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to re-contest the seat.
Anwar won Permatang Pauh in 1982 and defended the seat in subsequent elections but had to let it go following his conviction for corruption in April 1999.
He was sacked from Umno in September 1988 and is now the PKR advisor.
In the March 8 general election, Wan Azizah polled 30,338 votes to defeat Barisan Nasional (BN)'s Datuk Pirdaus Ismail with a 13,388-vote majority.
Abdul Rashid said the by-election writ would be issued tomorrow while the notice, a day later.
He also said that the EC had appointed Seberang Perai Tengah District Officer Roslan Yahaya as the Returning Officer for the by-election.
He would be assisted by three assistant returning officers namely Seberang Perai Municipal Council Secretary Zainol Abidin Md Noh, Seberang Perai Tengah Principal Assistant Distict Officer (Management) Kamarul Haizal Koderat and Seberang Perai Tengah Assistant District Officer (Land) Azizal Ahmad.

there are huge possibilty that Anwar gonna win the seat easily but just like tunku said we just wait and see if the voting is going to be less or more than Wan Azizah.

Wow. Interesting idea there you got tunku. I wonder if he gets more or less than azizah. Since people are thinking of either he wins the election against the BN or not, one could also imagine if he wins with a big majority or not, or also lose to BN.

if he win more, he will congratulate the current government and make a statement that all this would not be achieve if the past government still rule..

if he win less, some of the people being bought into the constituency to vote the others,

if he loose, he will cried foul...

too much drama, i rather watch sembilu kasih than reading the news paper nowaday..

Sir taek boon,
but it can't be denied that Anwar's Drama Bersiri is more interesting than Sembilu Kasih.
The main actor himself has been 'acting' close to 50 years.
And now he's currently starring in the latest sequel to his hit movie in 1998 'Sodomee, Mee Soto dan...'
