Mukhriz wants to contest polls if given the chance

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 31:
Umno Youth exco member Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir has expressed interest in contesting the coming general election if he is given the chance. The 43-year-old politician and businessman said he was ready to handle the responsibility.
“My one-term experience as Umno Youth exco member exposed me to many leadership activities. If I am trusted as a candidate, I will give my best,” he told reporters after the Malaysia Down Syndrome Association cheque presentation ceremony here yesterday.
Mukhriz, who is also the Opcom Holdings Berhad chairman, presented seven cheques worth RM50,000 to seven Down Syndrome associations in the Peninsula to assist with their rehabilitation programmes.
The youngest son of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is the Umno Youth international relations and non-governmental organisation bureau chairman.
His term, like that of other Umno Youth exco members who are above 40, is supposed to end last year but Umno has postponed its elections until after the general election.
