Aman Malaysia Team Departs For Egypt Tonight

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- Aman Malaysia (Peace Malaysia) team leaves for Cairo, Egypt, tonight to send food and medical aid to the Palestinians in Gaza over the weekend.
The nine-member team, led by Aman Malaysia coordinator Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, would depart for Cairo at 8.55pm from the KL International Airport in Sepang, enroute to Rafah on the Egypt-Gaza border, a 300km overland trip.
The 1.5 million Palestinians trapped in Gaza since the Israeli regime closed the borders in June were in urgent need of medical and food supplies, said Mukhriz, who is also Umno Youth international relations and non- governmental organisations bureau chairman.
"They were denied medicine, food, fuel and water," he told Bernama.
Eighty-five per cent of the Palestinians are now dependent on foreign aid, he said, referring to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency charged with helping the Palestinian refugees.
"Helping the Palestinians in Gaza is something that cannot be postponed," he said when asked about his trip at a time when the general election is imminent.

tunku : may they have safe journey for the good mission.
