ELECTION 2008: In list of surprises, Terengganu BN drops giant killer who toppled Hadi


KUALA TERENGGANU, Wed:

Shock, smiles and immediate exits were the reactions seen during the unveiling of candidates at Seri Iman today. Giant killer Datuk Abu Bakar Rahman, who defeated Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang in the marang parliamentary seat in 2004, left before reporters could get his reaction when he was not re-nominated. Abu Bakar was the Human Resource deputy minister.
Another name dropped was State Education, Higher Learning, Science and Technology and Human Resource Development Committee chairman Dr Abdul Latiff Awang (Umno-Bukit Payung), who also made an immediate exit.
The other State Exco members - Datuk Rosol Wahid (Umno-Ajil); Datuk Ahmad Said (Umno-Kijal); Datuk Mohamed Awang Tera (Umno-Cukai); Datuk Din Adam (Umno-Bukit Besi); Datuk Wan Hisham Wan Salleh (Umno-Ladang); Datuk Abdul Rahin Mohd Said (Umno-Teluk Pasu) and Toh Chin Yaw (MCA-Bandar) – will defend their seats.
State Agriculture and Rural Development chairman Datuk Mohd Jidin Shafee (Umno-Permaisuri) will now contest the Setiu Parliamentary seat after its incumbent, Mohd Yusop Majid, was dropped.
Another incumbent for the parliamentary seat dropped was Che Azmi A. Rahman (Umno-Kuala Nerus). Datuk Mohd Nasir Ibrahim was named as the replacement.
For other parliamentary seats, new faces continue to dominate the line-up: Datuk Dr Ahmad Ramzi Mohamad Zubir (Umno-Marang); Mohd Nor Othman (Umno-Hulu Terengganu) and Matulidi Jusoh (Umno-Dungun).
Only three out of eight incumbents were retained to defend their parliamentary seats - Datuk Abdullah Muhammad Zin (Umno-Besut); Datuk Razali Ismail (Umno-Kuala Terengganu) and Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek (Umno-Kemaman).
For the state seats, 11 new faces will contest. They are Dr A. Rahman Mokhtar (Umno-Kuala Besut), Abdul Halim Jusoh (Umno-Permaisuri), Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman (Umno-Seberang Takir), Tuan Arif Shahibu Fadilah Tuan Ahmad (Umno-Bukit Tunggal), Othman Awang (Umno-Wakaf Mempelam), Senator Nordiana Shafie (Umno-Batu Buruk), Zaidi Muda (Umno-Bukit Payung), Razali Idris (Umno-Rhu Redang), Mohd Rosli Harun (Umno-Sura), Radilah Abd Wahab (Umno -Kemasik) and Wan Abdul Hakim Wan Mokhtar (Umno-Air Putih) who is the son of former Menteri Besar Tan Sri Wan Mokhtar Ahmad.
The candidate contesting for the Kota Putera state seat, however, will only be named later. The incumbent for this seat is Wan Mohd Wan Hassan.
State Umno Liaison chief Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh (Umno-Jertih) and the rest of the incumbents will be defending their state seats including Ramlan Ali (Umno-Jabi), Asha'ari Idris (Umno-Langkap), Khazan Che Mat (Umno-Batu Rakit), Muhammad Ramli Nuh (Umno-Tepuh), Alias Abdullah (Umno-Alur Limbat), Yahaya Khatib Mohamad (Umno-Pengkalan Berangan), Rozi Mamat (Umno-Telemung), Wan Sagar Wan Embong (Umno-Manir), Mohd Zawawi Ismail (Umno-Kuala Berang), Za'abar Mohd Adib (Umno-Rantau Abang), and Zakaria Ariffin (Umno-Paka).

tunku : pity rahman bakar.i guess you did not perform well or your relationship with the boss is not good.hadi, this is your chance to capture back the seat which you lost in 2004, if you can't than i think you better resign as pas president.

I agree with you Tunku. If he cannot recapture the seat which he lost during the last election, he might as well just resign.
