Malaysians have more freedom now, says Musa Hitam

A Malaysian leadership where freedom prevails. Both in speech and in expression.
In a gist, this is how former deputy prime minister Tun Musa Hitam described the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Malaysians are now enjoying more freedom of expression and speech, he said, compared to the time during the rule of Abdullah’s predecessor.
Musa said that nowadays, the media could even expose the mistakes and fallacies committed by the government in their stories.
“These (stories) include those by Utusan (Melayu (M) Bhd), known as a pro-government newspaper. Even though Utusan’s views might still support the government, it (stories) is still an exposure.
“The freedom given by the government is mostly enjoyed by us, the middle-class. Nowadays, we can even have demonstrations without permits...(and) the people have less to fear.
“This was never known (to be) during the leadership tenure of my best friend,” noted an impish Musa at the Universiti Malaya Alumni Day 2008 Malaysian Development Vision Forum today.
While it was true the authorities had used water-cannons and tear gas cannisters to disperse illegally-assembled crowds, he said even other developed nations used such tactics on illegal demonstrators.
On blogging by detractors and the opposition, Musa welcomed it as a form of digital democracy as it allowed them to vent their spleen, without going to the streets and causing harm or public disturbances.
“However, I must remind the middle-class to be more rational and less emotional about certain issues, and take a more balanced perspective.
“As the middle-class, we should not be reactive to issues but be more proactive by studying, listening, being open-minded and researching,” he said, adding that the people should mingle with one another to achieve greater understanding.
Meanwhile, Musa reminded the Malays to stop having an inferiority complex, and the non-Malays to stop encouraging the Malays to develop an inferiority complex.

tunku : what musa hitam trying to say is that malaysia is a true freedom country under pak lah compare to the leadership under Tun Mahathir ( election talk ).under Dr M people are charged under ISA, no freedom, no street protest but under pak lah, no one is charged under ISA,people can protest whatever, whenever and wherever they want.the media too gives equal chance to everyone to voice their views.it is so good under the current leadership........... am i dreaming or this musang hitam is insane?

Musa ni memang punyai dendam kesumat dengan TDM... apa saja cara pun dia mesti nak cari peluang nak memburukkan bekas boss dia tu..

In 1997 I wrote to TDM during financial crisis, highlighting many issues and had mentioned USD1=RM3.80. ....some ideals were noted and exercised. following that I was fond of writing to TDM on many people needs and problems in general. TDM was a sensitive leader, he read,he gather people needs , ideals and get the problems fixed and find better solutions to solve it. He was a involved and engaged political leader. Ministers served under him should know.

A great and respected leader is the one who go to field and check out the facts and truth, no through intermediate appointee.

People choose a leader to lead the country to prosper and ensure people basic needs-daily are met and fulfil.

There are thousand of issues to be solved, a leader must define which direction he choses. Our Pak Lah felt International diplomacy is priority, so he travelled since the day TDM appointed him as Foreign minister. This should be Syed job.

We had thousand of problems and our PM is holding 3 Main Ministries. He should be ten of thousands of problems, Policy Matter and would his deputies reveal all the field problem to him?

As days gone by, many little problems cropped into bigger problems, bigger hate, bigger frustration, ppl talk in coffee shops, it spinned off into a snow balling effect until we hit the Big rally. It is not just people being used, being manipulated, it is accumulated issues.

People life is geting harder day by day, beyong many ministers reaisation. Afterall PM travels so much , he sees thing from sky woth different prospectives.

I used to travel a lot selling malaysian products. Until one day i realise one day, I gain nothing for myself, the world is so Big, so huge. Make $ when it is right choice, lose all when one political upturn in that coutry.

We must stay put, look inside us, build our nation to be stronger. Many problems keep going bigger problems, cos we just let it be... every1 just ripped off and let the snow ball roll...like 'Pendatang. Crowded Jail-40% illegal migrants...

We had few hundred thousands locked up Pendatang in ourjail, each day, millions of tax payers money are drained into feeding them. They need not work, they get feed. What kind of logic?

Surely, FREEDOM is not important for them, Stomach is not hungry for them.

I wonder who is involve in the supply chain of feeding all the few hundred Pendatang for years.

What is the solution.?

Everyday, we save faces to feed them, money can be well spend to build another school every 2-3 weeks.

In Singapore, NAVY just tow away boats from the sea to international water. What can we do with all the speedy sampan from Sumatra?

We have many problems every day, everyday just another day for minister.

...what can you tell..
