Khir Toyo Picks Fine Personality Candidates In Urban, Sub Urban Areas

SHAH ALAM, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) is expected to field candidates who will be able to meet the expectations of voters in the Klang Valley who favour personality more than the party when voting.
According to political observers, the move was not only to ensure victory in the coming election but also an indication that the Selangor BN, under the stewardship of Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo, was responding well to what the people wanted.
Chief executive officer of think-tank, Institut Perkembangan Minda, Norizan Sharif, said although the majority of voters in the Klang Valley would support the BN, it would be "conditional".
"Realising that these voters are selective and their support cannot be taken for granted, I believe that Khir Toyo will pick the candidates with the required personality who will be able to meet the expectations of voters," he said.
Norizan said the candidates had undergone stringent scrutiny and clearance from the police, Anti-Corruption Agency, Inland Revenue Board and Insolvency Department.
"Simply, this means the candidate is a good citizen. This is not about young or old (candidates) issue. The BN is offering the best candidates. These voters want those who are clean and responsible," he said.
He said the move was a pragmatic move by the BN to understand the voters' needs and not a "desperate" attempt.
"Khir Toyo is not desperate and the plan is well-thought-out. The (Selangor) MB has always said the wakil rakyat must not face unneccesary problems," he said.
Norizan said BN could not afford to have "problematic" candidates as they would be a liability to the party.
Meanwhile, voter Al-Ghazali Abdul Latiff said BN could not afford to field "wrong" candidates if the party wanted to garner good support in the urban and suburban contituencies as voters were critical, vocal and highly-educated especially with the rising number of young voters.
As at September last year, Selangor has about 1.5 million registered voters.
He said voters wanted the candidate to have good and cordial relationship with the community, be people- and voter-friendly and who take the job seriously and not something to show off.

tunku : i wonder if zakaria md deros will be contesting this time around.if he is, than it will not be a good choice.he has more to show off.if selangor's bn exclude him from the list, then it will be an advantage for them.
