Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir has urged parties not to jump into conclusions over the appointment of the state assembly Speaker.
He
said the Speaker's post could be announced only at the state assembly
sitting, where the name was presented to the assembly and the person was
appointed afterwards.
"This is not something that I can announce on my own.
"On
my part, I have already selected the candidates for the special officer
and advisor for the Indian community and it is being processed by the
state secretary," he said in a press conference here Monday.
MIC president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel
was reported saying last week that the party would not take up any
state government positions in Perak if it was not given the Speaker's
post.
He claimed he was informed the post had allocated to Umno.
In
the 13th general election, MIC contested three state seats in Perak out
of the total 18 - Buntong, Jelapang and Hutan Melintang - but failed to
win.
