Parliament Building Only For MPs, NGOs Cannot Hold PCs There - Shahidan

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, who has been entrusted with handling Parliament affairs, will ensure that the Parliament building is only meant for use of the members of Parliament (MPs) and not be misused by outside parties.

Shahidan said he would ensure improved measures be taken in and around the Parliament building so that the MPs could carry out their responsibilities without any disturbance.

"The MPs have the right and freedom to carry out their responsibilities in Parliament without any disturbance," he said after the handing-over of duty by Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, who was previously overseeing Parliament affairs, to him, here, Tuesday.

Shahidan said although many people visited Parliament, the facilities of this institution were only for the use of the parliamentarians.

"We must stop all disturbances and obstacles. Parliament cannot be used by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to hold any press conference (PC). If they wish to, they should hold it at another venue," he added.
