Najib Says He's Committed To Power Transition Plan

KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 (Bernama) -- Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today he was committed to the plan for transition of power from Umno President Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to him in June 2010.
As such, the deputy prime minister said, the Pekan Umno Division he led would nominate Abdullah for party president and him (Najib) for deputy president at the party elections in December.
Najib responded thus when asked about one branch in the Pekan Umno Division having nominated him for Umno president in the elections.
"That is only one branch. There are 134 more branches. The Pekan Division which I lead will nominate Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for president and me for deputy president," he told reporters.
According to the transition plan, Abdullah would hand over the Umno leadership to Najib in June 2010.
Earlier, Najib closed the Bumiputera Economic Convention 2008 organised by the Federation of Malay Economic Bodies (Gabem) and Umno Youth.

tunku : i'm giving up hoping that najib will accept the nomination after what he said earlier today.he said he will stick to the transition plan. one commenter(Aah) asked me to publish his article at mykmu utara at this blog.i don't know whether there's any point of it now as najib is satisfied with the transition plan. but we still hope that the branches will keeps nominating najib as president and muhyiddin as deputy. once they had enough nominations , i'm sure muhyiddin will accept his nomination and najib for sure will accept his nomination too.

Dear Tunku

Let's stick to an other individual leader to replace Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for UMNO President.

In the hands of UMNO lower leaders and members now...

I don't think it's good to have Najib as the top man now. Think the plan to let him settle his "issues" before proving himself to be worthy of the position of PM a good one. enough turmoil now without a drastic change of leadership.

President: Pak Lah vs Ku Li
Deputy President: Najib vs Muhyiddin.

If this really takes place, Dec 08 and few months prior to that would be interesting.

One condition: Whoever wins, whether Pak Lah or Ku Li, and whether Najib or Muhyiddin, everyone in Umno MUST accept. That's what democracy is all about. Don't be like in 87/88 when the losers and their followers formed a new party.
