Mustapa Mohamed May Not Contest Umno Vice-president Post

PUTRAJAYA, July 26 (Bernama) -- Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mustapa Mohamed said he might not contest a vice-president post in the party elections in December even if he received nominations.
"I am comfortable in my present position," said Mustapa, who is also Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, when met by reporters after closing an agriculture seminar for university students, here Saturday.
On the resolutions of the Council of Former Elected Representatives (Mubarak) which, among others, called for the transfer of power from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak be made before December, Mustapa said a decision on the matter had already been reached.
"The matter was discussed by the Supreme Council, taking into consideration all views before it was decided that the transfer of power should take place in June 2010.
"You cannot satisfy all quarters, but the views of the majority count," he said but admitted that there were grumblings among small groups over the matter.
On another development, Mustapa said his ministry would discuss with the Higher Education Ministry on the proposal of setting up agriculture clubs for undergraduates at higher learning institutions.
"This is a good suggestion, and implementing it should not be a problem," he added.
It was among seven resolutions passed at the seminar with 600 participants from 20 local universities.
tunku : i do hope mustapa mohamed will contest the vice president post as he is a hard working man and sincere.umno needs this type of people to be at the top leadership. anyway regarding the transition plan, as mustapa said the majority had decided on the matter, which majority he's talking about? it's not fair for few bunch of people to decides for 3 millions members.there are more voices wants the transition to happen by end of this year.
