Muhyiddin: Abdullah should allow Najib to learn the ropes

MUAR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi should start delegating responsibilities to his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to show that the power transition plan is taking shape.
Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said this would also give Najib sufficient time to manage the party, the Barisan Nasional component parties, and the Government when the time arrived.
Speaking to reporters, he said it was vital for the power transition to be implemented as soon as possible to boost the confidence of party members and the people.
“We asked for the transition of power between the two top leaders and Umno supreme council has endorsed a date for the transition to take place in 2010.
“I said recently the time frame was too long and many things could happen that could further erode the peoples confidence of the Government,” he said after opening the Pagoh Umno group branches general meetings Sunday.
However, Muhyiddin said since the transition date had been endorsed, it would be appropriate for the Prime Minister to allow the Deputy Prime Minister to start learning the ropes, adding that all that he had said before was only aimed at re-strengthening Umno, Barisan and the Government.
He said Barisan needed to regain the people’s confidence after the recent polls in which it failed to retain a two-thirds majority in the parliament.
He said there were many reasons why Barisan lost in the general election and some were linked to the leadership leading to for a change.
The polls also showed that “Umno is no longer a powerful component party in Barisan and we need to take drastic measures to gain back the people’s confidence,” he said.
On party polls in December, Muhyiddin said it was still too early for him to decide on what post to contest but he would announce his plan in the next few weeks.

tunku : muhyiddin said that they had asked for the transition of power but pak lah said in utusan's interview(13/7/08) that it was him who suggested it. anyway abdullah should retire early, not 2010. let there be open contest in december 2008 so that the member could choose the leaders out of their own choice, not given to them.and the elected president will have enough time to prepare for the next general election. muhyiddin should demand najib to go for presidency post this december as were planned earlier by them. they can't back out just because pak lah has said he'll go in june 2010. a lot of things can happen in 2 years time.

Isn't it funny, there is always others such as Muhyiddin Yassin telling Abdullah Ahmad Badawi what to do.

This is because many knows that Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is an unable leader.

He does not know what to do. He cannot do what he knows. Then, he also does not know what is deem necessary to know. So how can he do what needs to be done?

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi must step down now, before it is too too late.

He overstayed since 9th March 2008.

Muhyiddin is really a master in innuendo. this learning the rope argument..how about all the previous successions then? To insist that Pak Lah step down NOW is betraying the mandate for ppl, defeat or not, BN under his leadership was given a big caution but continued mandate to rule. So let him carry out his plans according to his terms. The others are power hungry anyway, so of course they'll make all sorts of demands.

Muhyiddin is making sure that his voice is heard by the everybody and to show that he's capable to accept the responsibility as the next PM.
Well, i guess if it is for the good of people then that will be great but this scream personal interest from miles away.,

Erm, mind me mencelah here. Even DSAI gets an earful from so many parties, including his own teammates in PAS and DAP who sometimes feel DSAI is not doing the right thing. Or lest, without prope discusion or approval from all party members.

Get your facts sir zubli, nobody is perect. It is called TEAMWORK and DEMOCRACY

Hello all,

warc, u have a good point there. If Pak Lah step down no, he'll betray the mandate given by people to administrate the government and the country.

But in a sense of way, Muhyiddin is make comments as if Pak Lah could not commit a judgment and decision on his own.

Whenever when u ask a leader to step down, u need to think the consequences and the affects of doing it for short and long term view. Don't think short-minded.

Its very sad that bloggers use internet to create speculations and false news with wrong rumors just because they don't like the particular person for personal matters.
