Anwar and cops: Should I stay or should I go?

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is prepared to go voluntarily to the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters to be questioned over the sodomy allegation if police cease trying to serve him with an order to appear.
Anwar, who has been accused of sodomy by his former aide Mohamad Saiful Bukhari Azlan, had earlier agreed to present himself voluntarily at 2pm on Monday.
However, he didn't turn up. He changed his stance on Sunday, claiming police had harassed his family in trying to serve an order requiring him to do so.
"On Saturday morning the police called and asked whether Datuk Seri Anwar could come to the station and we said okay and fixed it for Monday at 2pm," said Anwar's lawyer Sankara Nair when contacted.
"However, at 9pm, the officer called and said that he had served the order under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code on him.
"I told him that if they want to take the legal line our deal (to come voluntarily) is off.
"On Sunday morning, Datuk Seri Anwar's daughter called and said the police were at the house trying to serve the order and would not leave even though her father wasn't there.
"At 5pm, I wrote to the police that in view of their intimidation and harassment of the family I don’t think we could come on Monday.
"I added, however, that we were prepared to come in voluntarily if they called us again and fixed another date," he said, adding that Anwar was at home right now.

tunku : anwar is playing game again. he knew that the 'game over' sign is coming very soon to his doorstep.so he's still trying to find way to keep playing the game. so what if the police came to the house on sunday morning? at 2pm monday, you can still go to the police station but no, he wants police to set another appointment for him.

Police considering several options to get Anwar to give statement
KUALA LUMPUR: Police will exercise several legal options to get Parti Keadilan Rakyat's de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to give his statement following his failure to present himself to city police Monday.
CID director Commissioner Datuk Mohd Bakri Zinin said police just wanted to record Anwar's statement under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
"He (Anwar) had verbally agreed through his lawyer to come and give us his statement to assist us in our investigations following a report lodged by his former aide who alleged Anwar had sodomised him.
"Since he did not show up, we have to exercise several options. Whatever options we exercise will definitely be done in accordance with the law,'' he told a press conference at the city police headquarters in Jalan Hang Tuah Monday.
Comm Bakri who had been waiting at the city police headquarters for Anwar to show up, said police had issued him with a notice under Section 111of the Criminal Procedure Code to come forward and to give his statement.
He said although Anwar had through his lawyer verbally agreed to voluntarily be present, police wanted to ensure all police action was done in accordance with the law.
Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code empowers police officer's to require attendance of witnesses.
It states that a police officer making an investigation under this Chapter may by order in writing require the attendance before himself of any person who from the information given or otherwise appears to be acquainted with the circumstances of the case, and that person shall attend as so required.
It also states if any such person refuses to attend as so required that police officer may report such refusal to a Magistrate who may thereupon in his discretion issue a warrant to secure the attendance of that person as required by such order.
Anwar's lawyer Sankara Nair said in a statement that the police action in wanting to serve his client with an order under Section 111 of the CPC was totally unnecessary and was a form of harassment and intimidating.
He said Anwar who had voluntarily agreed to present himself at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters to give his statement on the sodomy allegations against him did not do so as a sign of protest.
Sankaran said on Saturday, DSP Jude Pereira had contacted him requesting Anwar to appear at the police headquarters on Sunday to have his statement taken.
“After discussing with my client, who was in Penang at the time, we had informed DSP Jude that he would be present on Monday at 2pm and it was mutually agreed.
He added that the order was neither necessary nor was it served in an appropriate manner, as Anwar had already agreed to give his statement to the police, as was the initial plan.

tunku : again police is too cautious in taking action against anwar. if it's ali ,ah chong or mutu, they had been taken into custody long time ago but because it's anwar ibrahim the moron, the police still gives him time.this is not fair. the police should act without fear and favour.don't be afraid of the demonstration that possibly will be held by his supporters, just follow the rules.

Hello tunku,

He is just giving excuse by claiming the authorities have harassed his family. What a lame cheap excuse!!

Now you are trying to drag the case for a long time. The longer you drag the more people will suspicious of your acting.

I have no words or comments for him. He is just using the precious time left to gain sympathy from people and public with implying his current issue with the previous issue charged over him. This is obvious.
