Policemen Opting To Serve Until 58 Should Not Be passengers - IGP

GERIK, May 11 (Bernama) -- "We don't need passengers in the police force."
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan gave this advice to policemen intending to serve the force until the new mandatory retirement age of 58.
While welcoming the prime minister's announcement on the retirement age which was raised from 56 to 58, effective July this year, he said those who accepted the option to serve until the mandatory retirement age should work harder.
"Since the age for us to retire has been extended, it is of utmost importance that we do our job better, be more committed and provide the best service to society.
"For those who intend to be just 'passengers' while waiting to be 58, it is better for them not to opt for the mandatory retirement age," he told reporters after opening the Pulau Banding police beat base near here today.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Ismail Omar, Internal Security and Public Order Director Datuk Hussin Ismail and Perak police chief Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah were among senior police officers present at the function.
On claims that the extension of the retirement age could hinder the promotion exercise in the force, Musa said those who worked hard and displayed a sense of integrity stood a chance at promotion.

tunku : not only the police, it goes for other government servants too. don't just be passengers but you must 'drive' together and finish your serving period with full responsibility and dignity. those who can't perform any longer should opt for early retirement.

In fact, as it is now, there are many passengers in PDRM. Some of them of the retirement age are just counting their days. Work that are supposed they have to do, it was "ops tolak" to the subordinate. Tan Sri IGP, pls check on this. Is this callintegrity?

Not only in PDRM, actually it happens in most government department. In fact, those who are really capable will opt to retire early because they have their own things to do and also some cannot stand to stay longer with the rotten ones..
Mostly those who are rotten with choose to stay and fill the seats. I dunno the retirement age is extended, I think even it should be extended with some terms and conditions such as to take into consideration of the performance and attitude.. Alahai!
