Incentives For Quit Rent Payers In Selangor

SHAH ALAM, May 5 (Bernama) -- The Selangor government is not able to provide a 20 percent reduction in quit rent yet, but is giving incentives to those who settle their arrears.
Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said a study was being carried out to determine whether it would be apt to reduce the quit rent since the state's economy had yet to reach the desired growth, in addition to the high land price and the ongoing housing projects in Selangor.
However, he assured the people that the state goverment was looking into ways to fulfil its election promise of reducing the quit rent and this would be known at the tabling of the state government's budget for 2009.
"I can't give any comments now due to the increasing land price in Selangor, despite the unfavourable economy in many places and competition with the (development) corridors in the neighbouring states.
"Based on a preliminary study, there is increasing demand for land in Selangor, but time will come when land will be scarce in the state because we no longer accept application for development in steep areas and also areas which we have gazetted as water catchment areas," he told reporters after the monthly assembly of state government departments here Monday.
On the incentives for quit rent payers, Abdul Khalid said a 70 per cent discount would be given for those paying arrears accumulated before Dec 31, 2007 and that arrears accumulated after Jan 1 this year would be abolished, effective Monday until June 30.
The incentive is given to encourage land owners to settle their arrears and also to strengthen the state's financial coffers as well as those of the respective local authorities, which will then be used to improve facilities for the people," he added.

tunku : this is another case of "cakap tak serupa bikin".you have promised the people during the election campaign, now fulfill it.why you did not study first before making the promise, now only you want to study? if pas in kedah can do it why not pkr in selangor?
