Top cop post in KL vacant due to poor planning, Johari says

KUALA LUMPUR: The Police Commission is not to be blamed for there not being a police chief in the city, Deputy Internal Security Minister Datuk Johari Baharum said.
Instead, the problem was due to poor planning and inadequate handing of procedures by the force, he said this at a press conference after opening the 6th tri-annual International Maritime Bureau meeting on piracy and maritime security here yesterday.
“You cannot blame the commission for this. The force needs to have proper planning and handing-over procedures.
“It is not the commission’s fault as the candidate list was sent to them too late,” he said, when asked why a new city police chief had not been chosen although the force had already submitted a list of candidates to the Police Commission.
Johari said this problem was only seen in the police force, as other security agencies in the country identified successors even before the retirement of the top brass.
“How can there not be a CPO in the city for six months? Now, the same problem exists in Perak and Sabah,” he said.
Johari had previously claimed that the crime rate in the city had risen because it did not have a police chief.
Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said in a statement that the process of promoting any police officer of the rank of superintendent and above involved a filtration process by the Anti-Corruption Agency and the police disciplinary secretariat before names could be submitted to the Police Commission for approval.
“Only after this can the promotions and postings be announced,” he said.

tunku : what is the problem with johari and the police force? i guess their relationship is not that good, that's why johari always bring it to media.if umno grassroot not happy, they'll advice not to go public or to the media but use proper channel, but when it come to them, they bring it to the media. i don't understand why they blame the increase crime rate is because there's no CPO in KL. If no CPO there'll be acting CPO which KL has it.Don't tell us that the CPO is the only crime buster is the police force.
