Abdullah Thankful Wedding Went Smoothly

PUTRAJAYA, June 9 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he was thankful to God that his marriage to Datin Seri Jeanne Abdullah today went smoothly.
"I am thankful to Allah (God) for the marriage ceremony to have gone smoothly," he told reporters in his first response to questions following the wedding.
The marriage was conducted by the imam of Putrajaya Mosque, Abd Manaf Mat, at 2.50 pm in the presence of close relatives at the prime minister's official residence, Seri Perdana, here. The wedding was not attended by the media at the request of the prime minister's family.

Soon after the wedding ceremony, Abdullah brought Jeanne and his family to the grave of his late wife, Datin Seri Endon Mahmood, at the Muslim cemetery in Precinct 20, here.
Abdullah and Jeanne were seen to be cheerful, with Abdullah attired in a cream-coloured "Baju Melayu" with a "songket sampin" and a "songkok" while Jeanne was dressed in a "baju kurung" with a "selendang".
Touching on the wedding ceremony, Abdullah said the close relatives who attended were his children, his siblings and family members of the late Endon and those of Jeanne.
Asked how many times he pronounced his marriage vows, Abdullah said in jest: "Once ... I pronounced once."
Acceding to a request from reporters and photographers, the prime minister showed the diamond solitaire wedding ring on Jeanne's ring finger as she put on a smile.
