Mazlan's OKU Son Hopes Father Will Win In May 5 Polls

The eldest son of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat, Muslidhuddeen Rabbani Mazlan, who was born with seeing disability, has expressed hope that his father, Dr Mazlan Ismail, will win the seat in the May 5 polls.

Muslidhuddeen Rabbani, 25, said every time after he performed his daily prayers, he would pray that his father would win and hence, be able to help those in need.

"If possible, I would like to accompany him during the campaign period and when he casts his vote," he told reporters while accompanying his father who was campaigning at the community-based rehabilitation (PDK) centre in Kampung Pertama near here Sunday.

Muslihuddeen Rabbani, who attends Madrasah Tahfiz Al-Kayyis in Merbau Kudung, Sungai Dua and able to memorize 12 parts (Juz) of the Quran, said he could not wait to cast his vote for the first time in the general election, especially when his father was one of the contesting candidates.

Meanwhile, Mazlan said he was planning to build a special welfare centre for persons with disabilities (OKU) in the constituency, which could also be used as a one-stop centre that would disseminate various information, including about job opportunities, to the OKU.

"Only leaders who truly feel how the OKU are living their lives will understand...and will do something to help them. Others will not understand. Those who don't have an OKU child will not understand.

"InsyaAllah (God willing), I promise there will be a new hope not only for the normal people, but also for the OKU," he said, adding that he also hoped that his son's prayer to see him win the election will be answered.
