DAP's intention to use the PAS logo had its rocket logo been rejected on nomination day showed that the party cheated the people when it opposed the hudud law championed by PAS, said Perlis MCA chief Dr Por Choo Chor.
Dr Por, who is Barisan's candidate for the Indera Kayangan state seat, said DAP candidates should have opted to stand as Independents in the general election instead."This is the largest contradiction in DAP and the party's frequent opposition of Islamist principles propagated by PAS is a lie," he said after a ceremah at Kampung Sentua here on Tuesday.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had said the party's candidates nationwide would carry two sets of authorisation letters to nomination centres, one from the DAP and another signed either by PAS or PKR.
Lim was reported to have said that if the DAP symbol was not accepted at the nomination centres, then its candidates were likely to contest using the PAS symbol in the peninsula and PKR's in Sabah and Sarawak.
He had described this as the last resort to ensure that DAP candidates were not rejected by returning officers after the Registrar of Societies (ROS) had informed the party two days earlier that it was de-recognising the party's central executive committee elected last December due to protests by members questioning the legality of the elections.
It was reported that the ROS subsequently handed a letter to the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur at about 10pm on the eve of nomination informing that DAP candidates could use the rocket symbol.
It was also reported that PAS was elated at the possibility of DAP using its moon symbol in the general election, saying it reflected acceptance of its Islamist agenda.
Describing Pakatan Rakyat as a loose alliance without common ideology, Dr Por said the three parties got together only because of the elections.
He said voters should thus reject PAS and everything related to the party.
