Three Barisan Nasional district election centres in Kg. Manggol, Kg.
Gelam, and Kg. Machang were reported to have been torched over the past
four days.
The most serious damage was said to have occurred in Kg. Manggol near Malau where banners, four tables and 1,000 posters of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Kubang Pasu parliamentary candidate Datuk Mohd Johari Baharum and Jitra candidate Aminuddin Omar were burnt in the early morning fire on Sunday.
Kg Manggol district election centre worker Haslis Saad said he left the
centre at 4.45am and was later informed about the fire by a passer-by
at 5.20am.
"I usually close the operation centre around 4am and
go back to my house which is just 400m away. The fire happened in the
span of 30 minutes after I closed the centre on Sunday morning," said
Haslis.
He later lodged a police report over the incident.
Kubang Pasu OCPD Supt Ibrahim Mohd Yusoff confirmed that police reports had been made over the fire incidents mentioned above.
He said the police was investigating the incidents under Section 435 of
the Penal Code for mischief by fire, while adding that police would be
increasing surveillance on high risk areas.
"All parties should
observe the law and regulations when campaigning, hooligan behaviours
just reflect on lack of professionalism by the political party
supporters," said Aminuddin
Kedah Barisan chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah
said that round-the-clock surveillance would be put in place in view of
the increased threats on political ceramah and operation centres.
"All reported cases are now under police investigation, we are doing
what we can by increasing security measures on all operation areas and
talk venues," said Ahamd Bashah.
