GE13: Gelang Patah will be returned to MCA in next GE, says Najib
JOHOR BARU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak says the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat will be returned to the MCA in the next general election.
He said the seat has always been MCA's and would go back to the party in the 14th general election.
"This is just temporary. This is just a five-year TOL (temporary occupational license)," he said in his speech during a dinner with various non-governmental organisations at the Southern University College here Monday night.
The seat is being contested by Mentri Besar Datuk Ghani Othman and DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang.
Najib also said that he agreed that a Chinese vernacular school be built in Iskandar Malaysia.
“(MCA president) Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek whispered to me earlier that the Iskandar Malaysia region needs a Chinese school and I agree to his suggestion.
“MCA can help find an under-enrolled rural Chinese school to be relocated to complete the education system in the Iskandar Malaysia region.
“Then not only will we have 12 universities in the area but we will also have a new Chinese school so that parents can easily send their kids to school,” he said.
It was Najib's first visit to the college as Prime Minister.
