GE13: Policeman’s wife and two children killed in car crash on the way to vote

An early morning family road trip turned tragic when the wife and two children of a Bukit Aman officer was killed in a car crash on their way to vote.
Supt Ghazali Daud, 49, from the Bukit Aman Religious and Counselling Unit, was on his way to Terengganu with his wife and five children for early voting.
In the 3.45am incident, Ghazali lost control of his multi-purpose vehicle before landing in a ditch on KM27 of the Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuala Berang near Wakaf Tapai.
State police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Jamshah Mustapa said Ghazali's wife Haniza Abdul Rahman, 40, son Ahmad Firdaus Izzudin, 11, and daughter Nur Aliah Adibah, 11, were killed in the crash.
Ghazali and three of his kids Nur Aliah Afifah, seven, Nur Aliah Atikah, six, and Aina Yusro, three, sustained severe injuries while 12-year-old Ahmad Fahmi Izzudin and seven-month-old Akilah Husna sustained light injuries.
Jamshah said the injured victims were taken to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah hospital for treatment while the deceased were sent to the Kuala Berang hospital for post-mortem.
The bodies were claimed by family members for burial at Kampung Gong Pak Jin in Gong Badak on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Ghazali's eldest son Ahmad Fahmi told reporters that they only decided to head back to Terengganu on Monday evening.
"My mother said dad wanted to go back to Terengganu to vote. We left Kuala Lumpur at around 10.15pm," said Ahmad Fahmi, who injured his right foot in the accident.
He said most of the family members were sleeping during the journey, and he was awakened by the sound of screeching tyres.
"The car lost control and then landed in a ditch. I remembered my dad screaming in pain and I think I fainted after that," said Ahmad Fahmi, who was still traumatised by the incident.
Deputy Inspector-General Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, who was in Terengganu to oversee the early voting process by police officers, visited Ghazali and his family at the hospital with Jamshah yesterday.
