State DAP assistant secretary W. H. Chee said, the majority rejected the
candidate picked by the DAP central leadership, Kedah DAP Youth chief
Teoh Boon Kok, to contest in the Derga state seat.
Kedah DAP wanted state DAP treasurer Liaw Theng Hooi to contest in the seat, he told a press conference in Alor Setar, Friday.
The incumbent for the Kota Darul Iman state seat, Lee Guan Aik, also
expressed disappointment with the decision of DAP secretary-general Lim
Guan Eng who wanted him to retire from politics.
The Kedah DAP chairman regarded Guan Eng's decision as undemocratic and incorrigible.
"I am not sad at being cast aside...but I am disappointed Guan Eng has ignored the grassroots," he said.
At the press conference, Kedah DAP publicity secretary Lim Sin Keat who
was picked by the central leadership to contest in the Kota Darul Aman
state seat, announced his withdrawal to make way for Lee to contest the
seat.
The DAP, prior to this, had demanded for four state seats, besides
retaining Kota Darul Aman and two parliamentary constituencies. The
other three state seats were Derga, Bakar Arang and Sidam.
The crisis resulted in the DAP not turning up for the announcement of
candidates for Pakatan Rakyat in Kedah, with its associates PAS and
Parti Keadilan Rakyat at the Kedah PAS headquarters in Alor Setar, three
days ago.
The DAP continues to be in turmoil as the majority of Kedah DAP members
have rejected a candidate picked by the party's central leadership to
contest in the state at the 13th General Election (GE13).
