Give BN Upper Hand, Urges Tun Mahathir

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has urged Selangor's voters to give the upper hand to the Barisan Nasional (BN) instead of the candidates when voting.

He said this would ensure that Selangor would not longer be helmed by the opposition which had reneged on its promises.

"We should come out in full force to vote for BN, don't care who the candidates are, don't look at their faces, and just cross the balance scale.

"The voters should remember that it is the party that form the government, not the candidates.

"I am confident that the people who are present here will save Selangor, we must take back Selangor," he said when addressing over 15,000 people at the 'Save Selangor' gathering organised by Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia here, Saturday.

Saying that he was baffled how the opposition came to power solely on the promise of free water, he said the richest Malaysian state should be wrested by the BN to enable the people to enjoy the wealth.

On PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik's remark that's prayers by Muslims in Umno would not earn divine merits, Mahathir said there was no verse in the Quran that stated that Nik Aziz could determine the divine reward for Muslims in Umno.

"This is not tok guru (religious teacher), this is a person who has vested interest, greedy, who likes to divide and weaken the Muslims, contrary to Islamic teachings that Muslims are brothers," said Mahathir.

He said the split among Muslims in the country was not due to advocating different religious sects but because of PAS leaders' desire to seize power through any means.

Speaking to reporters later, he said it would be a political suicide for DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang if Johor Menteri Besar Johor Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman were to stand against him in the Gelang Patah parliamentary constituency.

"I think if Kit Siang lose the contest, it will be the end of his political career if he does not want to leave the political fray on his own accord," said Mahathir.
