BN shortlists candidates for Selangor Mentri Besar, but guessing game continues

Barisan Nasional has shortlisted four candidates as Mentri Besar should the coalition win Selangor in the general election.
However, their identities will not be revealed as it would put extra pressure on them, says Selangor Barisan Nasional deputy election director Datuk Seri Mohd Zin Mohamed.
He said the potential candidates must be competent, dynamic and have experience managing an organisation.
"I won't mention specifically, as it will put more pressure on them. But there are four names shortlisted," he said.
When pressed further, Mohd Zin said he would not reveal more but welcomed the media to continue speculating.
"The Mentri Besar's name is in the candidates list. You can look for the name there," he quipped.
Some of the names speculated on include Datuk Subahan Kamal (Taman Templer), Datuk Ahmad Nawawi M. Zin (Batu Tiga), Datuk Muhammad Bushro Mat Johor (Paya Jaras) and Abdul Wahab Ibrahim (Taman Medan).
On Barisan's candidates for Selangor, Mohd Zin said they had practised due diligence in selecting the candidates.
We have done our checks. Datuk Yap Pian Hon, although he is not a wakil rakyat, has been engaging the people directly.
"Although he is not in the mainstream of the Barisan establishment, he is accepted by the people. He is the most winnable.
"We rather disappoint some leaders than disappoint the people," he said.
On Datuk Zulkifli Noordin's candidacy in Shah Alam, Mohd Zin said it reflected the political transformation in Barisan.
"The Shah Alam parliamentary seat had always been Umno's. But today, we are willing to invite a Barisan-friendly candidate to contest here. That's a transformation.
"Otherwise we would be entrenched in a system where only the division leaders become candidates," he said.
Meanwhile, the candidates expressed gratitude and said they would work hard to win over the people.
Datuk Nasaruddin M. Zin, who will face Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim in Port Klang, said he is unfazed by the challenge.
"I am local, but he is not. This is a chance to finish him off (politically). There is no special strategy, as we have worked hard since 2008," he said.
Kuala Kubu Baru candidate Jessie Ooi, who was the Selayang parliamentary coordinator, said she would give her best to her constituents.
"I feel sad that I've to leave Selayang. But I will give my best to Kuala Kubu Baru, just like I have served Selayang," she said.
