Azmin – More fresh faces than veterans among PKR’s 102 parliament and 162 state seat candidates
More than half of PKR's 102 parliamentary and 162 state seats candidates will be running for seats for the first time in the 13th general election.PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said the list of candidates have been finalised except for two seats, which are still being negotiated between Pakatan Rakyat partners.
“We expect the remaining seats to be finalised by this evening.
“We are in the midst of negotiations, aiming at an amicable solution,” he told a press conference after attending the presenting of watikah (appointment letters) to the party's election candidates here yesterday.
He added some 25% of the candidates were below 40 years of age, while about 30% were between 40 and 50.
“Our youngest candidate is 28-year-old Siti Aisyah Sheikh Ismail, who will contest the Tambun parliament seat in Perak.
“Our line-up features mostly young and new faces,” he said.
It is learnt that the two undetermined seats could be the Semenyih state seat and the Labuan parliamentary seat.
When asked on the possibility of a three-cornered fight in Labuan, Azmin said both PAS and PKR still believed in having a one-on-one fight.
“We will gauge the response of the rakyat in Labuan...we expect to make a decision today,” he said.
However, PKR and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) are still in a negotiation deadlock over the Semenyih state seat.
“Both parties have agreed that PSM will contest the Sungai Siput and Kota Damansara seats, which they won in 2008.
“We only asked them not to meddle in Jelapang and Semenyih seats... we hope an amicable solution will be reached within 24 hours,” he said, adding that he was confident of an agreement.
Azmin also refuted claims that PKR was being greedy in contesting for too many seats, saying that the party mostly opted for seats which other Pakatan Rakyat partners did not want.
