Perak MB Pulls Out Of Umno Contest

IPOH, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir has pulled out of the contest for the post of Umno Supreme Council member to enable him to concentrate on the state's development.
"If I join the race, I will have to travel throughout the country to introduce myself and meet the delegates. I hope members would understand and respect my decision.
"I have to forget the contest for the time being. As newly appointed menteri besar, I have to give more attention to the state's development," he told reporters here today.
He was among seven candidates from Perak who met the nomination quota to vie for the post of Umno Supreme Council member in the party election next month.
On the notice served on him and his six newly sworn-in state executive councillors to face the state's Committee of Special Privileges on Wednesday, Zambry said he had not seen the letter.
Zambry reminded Perak state assembly speaker V. Sivakumar to be careful with his action.
"He should know what he is doing. Do not do things at your whim and fancy," he said when commenting on the notice served by Sivakumar.
On the Bukit Gantang parliamentary by-election, Zambry said Bukit Gantang Umno division had submitted several names of local candidates including from Wanita Umno to the party for consideration.
The Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat in Perak fell vacant when Pas Member of Parliament Roslan Shaharum died on Feb 9.
The Election Commission has fixed nomination day for March 29. If there is a contest, voting will be held nine days later on April 7.

tunku : smart move by zambry for not contesting the umno supreme council post.as a mb or state chief, you will get the post without having to contest for it. the president normally will elect a state chief to supreme council post. about the former perak state speaker serviced notice to zambry and the excos to face the state's Committee of Special Privileges on Wednesday, i think the ex speaker is so stupid, he forgot that he is the "ex" speaker.
