Pakatan Reminded Not To Belittle Wisdom Of Perak Sultan

JOHOR BAHARU, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and DAP chairman Karpal Singh are advised not to belittle the wisdom of Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak in not dissolving the state's legislature and appointing a new menteri besar for the state, said Umno vice president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
"Their action to file legal action against the Sultan is not a wise step and smells of politics to pursue Pakatan Rakyat's agenda. It also shows disrespect for the rights of the Rulers as enshrined in the Constitution.
"This is very shameful, Rulers must be respected," he told reporters after attending a briefing on the progress of the Iskandar Malaysia development region, which was also attended by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman at the Johor government's new administrative complex in Nusajaya here today.
Muhyiddin, who is also International Trade and Industry Minister, said this in commenting on the planned action by PR, which is a coalition of PAS, DAP and PKR, against the Sultan over his decision not to dissolve the state assembly and allowing the Barisan Nasional (BN) to form the new government in Perak after the PR failed to command the majority in the legislature on Friday.
According to Muhyiddin, whatever decision taken by the Perak Sultan was within his right as provided for by the state's constitution.
Asked if the refusal by Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin to vacate the menteri besar's post to make way for Pangkor assemblyman Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir to take over as ordered by the Sultan could be deemed as treason, he said in Malay tradition it could be deemed as such.
However, Muhyiddin said he hoped the political turmoil in Perak would not become prolonged because its people wanted to see a stable government to continue the development agenda.
"The people do not want to see two captains in one ship. We (BN) want to get to work," he said.
Education Minister and Umno Youth chief Datuk Hishammuddin Hussein, who was also present, described the action by supporters of PR in holding a demonstration at the Ubudiah mosque in Kuala Kangsar to protest the formation of the BN government in Perak as very rude.
"I advise the people especially youths to remain calm and not exacerbate the situation. Do not engage in provocations against royalty," he said.
Asked about Mohamad Nizar's action in not stepping down as the menteri besar and vacating his official residence until now, Hishammuddin said Mohammad Nizar should be given space and time to think.
The BN, he said, would not force him to leave the residence as it would only make things worse.
Meanwhile, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said the PR should be consistent in upholding it principle in regard to party hopping.
"To them it is okay if people hop over to the PR but when the reverse happens, they get angry," said Shahrir, who is also the Member of Parliament for Johor Baharu.

tunku : the pakatan leaders must apologize to Sultan Azlan Shah of their disrespect behaviors.Whatever happened in Ipoh on the 6th February were something that went beyond its limit.I hope the Perak Istana will take action back on these people.

The Perak Sultan's statement that "the MB's post will be considered vacant should he (Nizar) refuse to resign" should be referred to the High Court for a ruling.

"Oh you're so rude"...ouch! Expected more from Hisham. Maybe he has forgotten that he is still youth chief and not 'president of vice' yet!
