Tan Sri Aishah Ghani 90, died at Gleneagles Kuala Lumpur hospital at 12.50pm on Friday, according to her grandson Ahmad Arif Astama.

Aishah was born on Dec 15, 1923 in Kampung Sungai Serai, Hulu Langat,Selangor.
She
started her education at Sekolah Melayu Bukit Raya in Cheras before she
continued high school at Diniyah Puteri Padang Panjang, Sumatera Barat,
Indonesia, between 1936 and 1939.
She studied journalism at the Regent Street Politechnic and got her degree in 1958.
She
was a journalist at Berita Harian and an editor with the NST group till
she resigned before she took up the post as Wanita Umno deputy chief in
1963.
She was the first Malaysian woman to be elected as senator
in 1962 and also the first female representative to attend the United
Nations general assembly on the same year.
She was the Welfare Minister between 1973 and 1984. Her funeral will be at 6pm at the Bukit Kiara muslim cemetery.
