PAS has far deviated from founding principles, says Dr M

Many ulama (religious scholars) have ditched PAS because the so-called Islamist party has far deviated from its founding principles, says former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohanmad.
He said PAS' biggest mistake was to form an electoral pact with DAP which was clearly anti-Islam.
"The Malays are now worst off with PAS cooperating with DAP. The DAP clearly rejects Islam.
"Nik Aziz Nik Mat (PAS' Spiritual Adviser) wants to use the DAP to wrest Putrajaya (federal government administrative capital)," he told about 10,000 people at the Pokok Sena parliamentary Barisan Nasional election operations centre at Hutan Kampung, near here, last night.
Dr Mahathir said DAP would pursue its agenda to be the dominant partner in the opposition coalition and to govern the nation.
"The DAP is not like MCA and MIC which want to share power and cooperate with Umno to form the government," added Dr Mahathir, who was prime minister for 22 years from 1981 to 2003.
