Barisan Nasional will live up to the expectations of the younger
generation if given the mandate to return to power in the 13 general
election on May 5, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has promised.
The Prime Minister said Barisan had never neglected young people,
instead it had carried out various programmes to cater to their needs.
He said these included the 1Malaysia For Youth (1M4U) to encourage
volunteerism, the 1Malaysia People's Aid for single unmarried
individuals earning RM2,000 and below, and the 1Malaysia Training Scheme
to upgrade youth competency.
"We are working hard so that through coordinated efforts and
effective implementation, we will chart a future full of hope for young
people," he said when launching the 'Voice of My Generation' programme
in Bukit Jalil here on Friday.
The event, which was organised by the 1Malaysia Youth Movement, was also attended by the Prime Minister's wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
The Prime Minister said unlike previous leaders, the Government under
his stewardship has shifted from an orthodox approach for he was aware
that the younger generation was growing up in a different environment.
"To me, it's better and more meaningful if we can bring new channels
so that we can find out the needs of the new generation, young people at
the grassroots level, to enable them to determine their needs that can
be considered by the Government," he added.
Hence, he said, there was no reason for young people to hold street
demonstrations or call for changes to be made by overthrowing the
Government.
"There is no reason for youths to feel that they are neglected, for
the Government has opened up to make the democratic process more open
and liberal.
"Believe me, the Government of the day is a Government for young
people," he said.
The Voice of My generation is a new platform for young Malaysians,
regardless of race, religion or belief to air their views, ideas and
expectations for the benefit of the community.
The best ideas and proposals from youths will be presented to
national leaders or relevant bodies as a basis for development planning.
Youths can express their opinions during sessions with Voice of My
Generation representatives or upload their videos to the Voice of My
Generation social media site.
