Barisan Nasional's manifesto is pragmatic and logical, while Pakatan
Rakyat's manifesto contained populist promises that will only lead to
chaos, said MCA Young Professionals Bureau chief Datuk Chua Tee Yong.
He said Barisan's manifesto was committed to creating a resilient,
dynamic and innovative economy and had listed down specific measures for
its successful implementation.
"It is clear that Barisan can fulfil the promises listed in the
manifesto and the public can view it either through the media or the
Internet," he said in a statement yesterday.
Chua said that since the introduction of the Economic Transformation
Programme (ETP), Malaysia's gross national income per capita rose from
US$6,700 (S$8,300) in 2009 to US$9,970 in 2012, showing a growth of 48.8
per cent in two years, which is proof of the nation's development.
He added that since 2010, the country's economy continued to grow
more than 5 per cent annually and the Government had also successfully
reduced the nation's debt to 4.5 per cent in 2012 from a deficit of 6.6
per cent in 2009.
"From this, we can look forward to the deficit being further reduced
to 4 per cent and 3 per cent in 2013 and 2014 respectively," he said.
He said that last year, the country's investment expanded by 19.9 per
cent since the ETP was implemented, with private sector investments
totalling RM139.5 billion.
"All these successes proved that the nation's economic development is
on the right track under Barisan's policy of sustainable development,"
he added.
In contrast, Chua said Pakatan had only come out with "vague
promises" for its manifesto which were populist policies aimed at
winning votes.
"Not only is there no specific plan to develop the nation and
economic programmes, but the amount that they need to spend to fulfil
their populist promises will top the nation's revenue, forcing the
people to pay more taxes," he said.
