JOHOR BAHARU, March 29 (Bernama) -- The Pulai Umno division does not support the Johor Umno Liaison body's proposal to cancel the Teaching of Mathematics and Science in English (PPSMI), but instead feels the policy should continue.
Division chief Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the decision was made during an Umno division committee meeting about two weeks ago, well before the Umno general assembly which began on Tuesday.
He said pressure (to cancel PPSMI) from the Johor Umno during the party's general assembly, which ended yesterday, was not a unanimous decision from the 26 Umno divisions in the state.
"After the committee meeting, the Pulai Umno division is adamant in supporting the PPSMI as the decision was unanimous among its members," said Nur Jazlan here today.
He said the government had provided a large allocation to carry out the PPSMI and cancelling it would be a waste of not only facilities, but also human capital.
"Education is an essence of Umno's struggles and surely, the Malays do not want their children to be left behind.
"The Pulai Umno welcomes the PPSMI policy and wants it to proceed for the future of the Malay generation," he said.
tunku : sometimes the top level made the decision or resolution without the consent from the grassroots.this has always been the case and they should change this attitude in order to be relevant.majority supports the PPSMI.we hope the cabinet will not make irresponsible decision on PPSMI.
