KUALA LUMPUR: Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has advised Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to choose his Cabinet line-up carefully as corrupt leaders could lead to the demise of Umno.Dr Mahathir said if Najib made the wrong selection, he could be “signing his own death warrant.”
“We will see (who will get chosen). We know that a number of the candidates had used money as a ticket to contest,” he said.
Dr Mahathir added that Umno would not regain the support of the people, as seen in the March 8 general election, if money politics were still rampant.
“Barisan Nasional can’t win with votes from its members only. The support from those outside of the party is equally important. From previous experience, these non-party members became tawar hati (disappointed) and did not support Umno,” he told a press conference at Memorial Tun Hussein Onn here on Saturday.
He hoped that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the Umno disciplinary board would take stern action against those found guilty of corruption.
Earlier, Dr Mahathir gave a talk on democracy and the future of leadership in Malaysia to a packed hall.
In his speech, he reminded the Umno delegates who will be voting in the coming party polls to choose the candidates based on their leadership qualities and not for favours they could get.
Dr Mahathir also dismissed the idea of a unity government as proposed by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
“In any country, it is always the best to have two parties for check and balance. It is not a good idea to have a one-party country.
“PAS joined Barisan Nasional in 1970. But they only acted to serve themselves and not the coalition,” he said.

tunku : it's hard for najib to pick a blemish free cabinet now as the only way to change for a total is after election.before election would be difficult.najib has to prove it before the 13th GE that he is the pm malaysia needs otherwise bn can be in trouble.once the party lose the election it will take years and years to wins back.so the choices now is in the hand of najib and the 2800 delegates for umno's election end of this month.we are watching and monitoring you guys.

What rakyat want is a capable , serious and smart frontline civil servants-such as Bandaraya and majlis dearah who can work for the good of people. Every floods make thousand people angry, millions lossess of property, damage of car that money is hard to earn.
And every MPs -EXCO everyday bashing each others...
We had dirty street, millions foreigners, clogged drain and hundreds of issues need to be fixed and clean up...
WHo can we pick? the head or the hands?
