No projects during polls

TAIPING: No significant development projects will be carried out during the campaigning period for the Bukit Gantang by-election.
Regional and Rural Development Minister Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib said projects such as road upgrades would not be implemented unlike in previous by-elections.
He said road upgrading projects normally contributed to traffic congestion and angered the public.
“In past by-elections, carrying out projects such as road upgrading or widening exercises had become counter-effective among voters,” he said in his speech yesterday when launching the Barisan Nasional election machinery in Terong, near here.
“Therefore, projects to be funded by my ministry will only be carried out after voting day.”
Later, during a press conference, Muhammad, who is also Umno information chief, assured Bukit Gantang residents that projects to eradicate hardcore poverty where recipients are entitled to receive a house costing RM33,000 each and tap water would also be carried out.
Bukit Gantang Umno division chairman Datuk Rosli Husin, meanwhile, said he had received between 15 and 20 enquiries from non-governmental organisations to set up operation centres to assist Barisan in the by-election.
He said the setting up of such centres should not be viewed negatively because those who wanted to start them were Barisan supporters.

tunku : at least they have learned something.voters nowadays don't see all that to make their decision on who they want to vote in. it is the candidate that can serve them better and also the party that bring hopes to them. enough of road resurfing etc during by elections. it is some sort of bribe to the voters and some politicians which holds some portfolio take full advantage of this situation for personal agenda. instead of busy doing road resurfing etc, the party should help the public in their needs and urgent assistance, get close to them, explain to them the party's struggles and what the party can offer to them.
